Is there a specific test?

Is there a test that allows you to tell, say, normal puppy behavior, from a puppy that may be possessed by evil forces? I've done the normal checking-- marks of the devil, flames behind the eyes, checked his crate for heavy metal cds-- you know the drill.

I can't seem to find any hard evidence but I can't believe that a puppy that wasn't under some sort of evil control could bite so much, so hard and so nonstop. Bear just sits in the corner with a vial of holy water hanging from his collar and fear in his eyes.

Pray for us...

Oh my......

I don't know what to tell you.

Thank goodness I have never had that problem. Although my friend Mary is having that trouble with her new kitten. Maybe it is the year that is cursed???

I have 3 two year olds, and none had that problem - must have been a good year in 2006!
Lol. I know, he's just a baby. Today was just a particularly bitey day! We have affectionately begun calling him Puppy of Purgatory.
From one evil puppy owner to another all I can say is "I feel your pain."

We've even considered looking for a doggy exorcist. I'm sure someone somewhere take our money and pretend to be one. LOL.

I like the image of your other dog with a vial of holy water on his collar. I think I should pick one up for our other dog, too.

Has yours gnawed through an actual wall yet?

Ours did just the other evening. And then sat there, grinning...

You might also want to turn his head gently from side to side to see if it actually spins all the way around! Ours can now levitate in the air, and pull down things as high up as five feet in the air. He also answers to Beelzebub.

Sending positive vibes your way. Good luck. I keep being told this will pass in time. I sincerely hope I live to see THAT day.
You guys have me LMAO.

Just look at those cute faces(just not too close unless sleeping)!! I do remember the "pain" of puppyhood. Remember to yelp or make a high pitched noise when they get to rough...it supposed to help :?

Poor Bear, he doesn't understand that this little bugger just wants to play(bite)

Oh my puppy is growing into his big pants too!!!!!!!
Call me crazy but, I love it!!!
He is too cute....
He starts puppy class in two weeks so, that should be interesting!
I have never had a puppy so......
FUN!
I am sure once he gets older and starts trying to eat stuff you
won't see such a happy post!
Jill! It's normal but totally annoying and painful. This was why I was wondering if staying with mom/littermates longer curbed some of this behavior. If puppy does this to mom or another puppy, it just seems to make sense that they would most likely growl and snap at him... if it continued the dog would most likely bite.

A vet had shared this long ago. This is if you cannot stop the behavior by redirecting the puppy's attention or yiping loudly yourself and shunning him...

The lesson is to make puppy understand that biting our hands is uncomfortable to him/her too. IF your hand is currently in puppy's mouth, you can try wiggling your fingers toward the back of his mouth (but be certain you don't have long/sharp fingernails that might wound the pup).

If this doesn't work, you roll the lip over a tooth and give a quick pinch... just enough to be uncomfortable. Don't be cruel! But he/she has to learn that biting/mouthing US is not acceptable.

Jim said that if this doesn't work, for a nominal fee he will begin an internet exorcism
I may be interested in that exorcism in the near future.

Hudson's cute, but we really would like a moment's peace once in while. Maybe he could just take Sundays off from evildoing? A nice break once in a while.

In the amount of time it took to write this, he's stolen two shoes (which were stored in doggy jail so I've no idea how he did it), pulled down a picture from the fridge that we THOUGHT was above his reach, and jumped up on the bench in the kitchen to cllimb into the bay window and eat a plant. And, he just came back from a long walk and had his breakfast, so it's not like there's a huge build up of energy....or there shouldn't be...

Ironically, we leave for his last puppy class of the session in an hour...and he's one of the "stars" of the class. There he reins it in and acts like a non-possessed dog. The maniacal giggle starts in the back seat of the car as soon as we leave the parking lot to head home.

We'll need to discuss that fee I think. I'll start collecting cans on the highway today to pay it.

Tracie and  <---(Hudson)
No, I gotta say, Owen is a really good puppy. He's not into things and stealing stuff he shouldn't have. He's quiet and he's getting the hang of housetraining. It's just the drive-by bites. He seems to have a real taste for flesh!

Pam, it's impossible not to remember to scream or yell because it hurts and scares the crap out out of you at the same time. It's also incredible funny when it isn't you so James and I have to remember to stop laughing at each other when it happens, lol.

Clyde is doing a great job playing "mom" and he really keeps Owen out of trouble. I almost think Clyde is being too gentle. He needs to give him a good "mom" nip to set Owen straight! Clyde's poor ears have been yanked on, bit, pulled and just all around abused. Clyde's such a good boy. :)

Fear not. One day Owen's puppy license will run out and Clyde with give him what he has coming to him. Failing that, you can probably have your pick of bitches you can borrow who will do it for him

I always though the full mask was the mark of the devil but perhaps not

Kristine
I am so grateful it wasn't just Charlie that did this! He would bite and bite all of us--toes, arms, ears, any part of the anatomy he could get his mouth around. And then, when he couldn't fit his mouth around it, he'd just bite it like a pinch. One day, I ended up with little "vampire marks" on the front of my thigh where he was nibbling and ended up getting too much meat! It hurt like a son of a gun!!!!! Fortunately, he now turns to cardboard boxes and takes it out on them. He's also getting his "big boy" teeth so it's not as bad. I'm sorry you are all going through this but think how cute they are! That's the only thing that saved Charlie on many occasions!!
Oh Clyde will come around!!! Cheyenne used to warn Sophie very softly now its a snarl and if she doesnt behave its a nip that makes Sophie yelp. I think it must be the year for possessed puppies. Sophie is a maniac. We have nick named her Piranha because when she goes after Beau she doesnt stop its crazy at this house.

Yeah if the head starts spinning around on the neck and he barfs up Pea Soup

Tell bear to keep that Holy Water and a Cross handy just in case 8O
Drive by bites!

hehe
MY parents puppy Abby is a Devil Dog. She's now 6 months old (she's in my avatar) and she gets these crazy wide eyes and bites the air over and over really fast. It's quite scary!
Maybe the Priest Dracy is going to use for her house would preform an exorcism on the pup as well
Oh, Jill, I feel for you. Oscar was THE WORST biter. When we first met him, he was jumping on his littermates and hanging off their ears as they were yelping and crying. 8O Everytime we picked him up, he would lunge and snap, trying to bite your face, and if you got down to play with him, forget it. I've never gone through so many band-aids in my life! Our nicknames for Oscar were Pirhana Pup and Gator Boy, until he stopped teething.

So there is an end in sight! Yes, once again you will be able to sleep in, and once again you will be able to play with your dogs without needing a band-aid. :)

Laurie and Oscar, the reformed biter
Mr Newfie puppy never snacked on us - of course he was wil mom and siblings until he was 15 weeks. however the breeder said raw fed dogs don't go through the same teething issues and if Beowulf is an example that would seem to be true . I would think that even if you didn't raw feed raw bones would help.

I don't remember Morgan chewing on me - marley would only occassionally do so - and she had the sharpest teeth!! I gave up handfeeding her because I thought I would not have any fingers left
OMG, this post is so funny. I've never laughed so hard or felt the pain of any post so much. Chauncey was a terror, known as the "furry alligator".
We looked like hamburger for the 1st year, things graduality improved. Then came the bruises & scratches from the paws, for months I dread a doctor's visit for fear of Bob going to jail for spousal abuse.
Chaunce just turned 3 on Sept. 5th and I can say with confidence, it was worth it. I was shocked that the change seemed to happen overnight. One day hell dog, the next actually quite pleasant.
Keep the faith.....Kathy
I need the test...today after two weeks of being the "perfect" puppy Maggie has turned into a demon! I first left her in her crate to take Rosie to the groomers and get groceries...I come home 1 1/2 hrs later to find she pooped in her crate and it was on her and everywhere in the crate! She has been sleeping in the crate from 9-6 for 2 weeks without an accident! Unload groceries, take Maggie out and put her on the porch until I can clean the crate...then bring her in and give her a bath and dry her...groomer calls...Rosie is done early...back into town! Get home and let dogs out, feed lunch and back out and then I finally get lunch. I had a cup of coffee by my chair and Maggie runs into livingroom, jumps into my chair, turns over my cup of coffee all over the chair ....cup was full! So glad I invested in a 6 panel puppy pen...Maggie is confined for a while...she turned 14 weeks today...maybe she is celebrating her "puppiness"! Oh...didn't mention what she chewed up on the porch the few minutes I left her...sigh...I guess that's why God made puppies to look cute!
according to the priest that came to my house to bless it....''it doesnt usually work .." he was right.....i think youll have evil owen for a while....

As I sit here typing with sleeping sheepies all around me, it is nice to be reminded why I DO NOT want another puppy. It's easy to be taken in by their cute faces and puppy breath. Gosh, I can so relate to looking like I'd been beaten and abused and everything I wore having holes in it. So glad those days have passed. I still wonder some days how I survived it, but it was worth every minute. Keep the faith. This too shall pass.

If he is as evil as he is cute you have the devil dog
This is one of the times I really miss Melody! All Owen would have to do is walk into my house & her eye contact & silent "vibes" would set him straight right away! And if he was a bit slow at picking up on that then Melody went to "step 2" which was a bit more of a physical correcton but nothing to hurt him.....just make him take a step back & say "Yes Ma'am! I get the message"! Unfortunately, everyone I have down her is way too laid back to do anything.....which is why I seem to be getting nowhere with Olivia's behavior when in the play mode! Seriously Jill, you both need to quit spoiling him & give him a good solid correction EVERY time he does this. What is cute at 15# is NOT cute at 95#! If all else fails......tell Cathy you need to borrow Pebbles for awhile. Pebbles will teach him what is acceptable & what isn't.

Now it is off to grooming Olivia. It is "payback day" for my leaving & going to the national for the week. It's been 10 days sice she's seen a pin brush. Good thing I had a good time at the national & the dogs did well there.....will make this night of non-stop grooming worth it........MAYBE
Oh, no worries, he's getting corrected. I posted this like 10 days ago and you know how much they change in 10 days! The boys have already established their boundaries with him and we're definitely not letting him beat us up. It's slowing down already but, boy, those needle sharp teeth-- the pain stays with you! We're being consistent and firm with him. I keep a toy with me at all times to redirect any nibbles and he's getting it. It's not 100% but he's getting it now.

The flames behind his eyes are dying down. See?

No, but I've never had a dog that did either. I think they watch each other and, luckily, no one ever sees anyone else do it! He's ready too big to commando crawl under the coffee table, which he found out the hard way this morning when he got stuck and we had to lift the table to get him out!

Heres some nice stuff about Owen so everyone knows it isn't all fire and brimstone: Owen actually never even jumps up. He's already learned sit and he's really patient for a pup his age and you have his COMPLETE attention if thinks there may be a food reward involved. He likes to just sit and watch me in the kitchen and every once in awhile, I lean over and praise him or slip him a little piece of puppy biscuit for good behavior and I think he really "gets" that it's his good behavior that earned him the rewards. He's already totally crate trained and he's not even 11 weeks old yet so he's already 4 months ahead of Clyde, lol.

All in all, he's an awesome puppy and we love the heck out of him. He's a smart, good boy!
Oh OWEN! I just about forgot what those puppy teeth felt like until I ran into a sheepie puppy, Murphy. Those things brought back memories. Foz used to jump up and bite my butt! Just remember to screech!
