My wife is 5 months pregnant and we can't figure out if the dog's recent incidents are in response to him sensing a coming change or if there is another issue such as some sort of hierarchical/attention issue specifically related to my interaction with the dog. Any suggestions? |

Welcome to the list...you will get alot of advice that will help.
First of all is your baby neutered?? Leash walked or out in a fence?? Absolutely if there is a change any dog will react differently. As far as the tires you can leash walk past the cars to correct that behavior. Do not let your boy "mark" That is what he is doing in the house and garage. He is establishing territory and dominance. With a new baby coming in you don't want that. I understand all that we have some"markers" that we have to be on top of in the house! Good Luck.... |
Unless your dog is just reaching adolescence, most likely you park your car somewhere where another dog is also marking the tires.
I was at a seminar this weekend where the idea that neutering will reduce marking was brought up - and although I don't have the statistics here in front of me - it was pointed out that there is little statistical change in marking if the dog is prone to mark. All dogs can be trained not to do so when it is inappropriate. The best thing is to ensure you have him on a leash when passing the cars and not allow him to stop and mark. |
