Shaggy Girl dumped in the park

Hi everyone,
I just started checking out the forum after our new foster dog came to stay with us. She is a estimated 6 year old female purebred OES. She was intact, matted and filthy, riddled with tumors, under weight, crippled from a badly broken leg that was never treated(she can barely sit or lay down, its a long slow process) and has horrible arthritis in her elbows hips back and knees. She was found dumped in a park unable to fend for herself or even stand up.
She was taken to the city shelter and because she couldn't stand at all was put on the very very short list to be pts. She got lucky and was transferred to another shelter where she was able to be treated medically.
We are fostering her and it seems likely that we will fail at fostering because she's a great jolly girl. We are holding off to see how she does with our other dog's long term. She has some minor(so far) behavioral issues but they make me want to make sure she wouldn't be better of as an only dog.
Theres also the reality that its likely she has little time left in this world. She's very athletic and playful but also in pain a great deal of the time and its incredibly difficult for her to get up and down, someday she just wont be able to do that at all and that day will be sooner then it should. She's on all the right meds, and supplements so she's doing better, but...

Still if she wants to stay with us we cant see not giving her a really good time for however long she has.
Now we need to come up with a name.
So thats the story so far, I'll post a picture soon, thanks for reading.

Welcome!
Sorry about your Foster Girl's rough's time. Poor Baby!

It's not so bad if you fail as a Foster Parent. Many people here on the forum are also foster parent failures.

Post some pics, we need to see her before we try to start figuring out a name. :D
Welcome! I am so glad you are helping this girl. When you have a moment, please post pictures! Do you have any names in mind?
She's a very Lucky Little Lady to have found you. Even if she has a short time left, she has found security, love, acceptance and knowledge that these people won't hurt her. Many, many dogs never have that wonderous moment. No, she shouldn't go out for adoption. She's too frail and needs the security your home provides.
AWWWWWWWW what a story, good luck and God bless you :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Thank you so much for taking in the dear, jolly girl. I am sure basking in the love and warmth you are providing to her. I know she will enjoy whatever days she has with you. . . I hope you don't mind but I am rooting for you to fail at fostering. You sound like you offer the perfect home for this sweet sheepie girl.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!

And welcome, too! :D

Me too!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!!!!
I should have added..
Failing at foster is OK!
We have Paddington who is now 13 years old
His hips were so bad when we rescued him the vet
didn't think he would do well.
He was 11 at the time and Paddy Paws is still doing well!!!
Two year lateer we still have Paddy Paws!
Love is the essence...
It is so hard to love them for a short time but, you never know!
Your girly may be around many more years!
Again
THANK YOU for rescuing her!
You are all so incredibly sweet! Thank you. Heres a picture from today, we went for a walk to the bottom of our hill and back up (trying to build some muscle tone back) with one of our beardies boys. She was in the shelter for quite a while being treated and is looking much better then when she first came in.
We are totally at a loss as to what to name her. Maybe its because we have never had a girl dog before or probably because we haven't signed the paperwork yet. Not sure. She a very jolly sassy girl in spite of the pain she is in, she just struggles to her feet and romps around.

you know you want to keep her! she looks lovely....what ever time she has left she deserves some love, she looks like a Cassie, Chloe, Honey or Heidi to me!
welcome how about sassy for her name
I hope to one day fail at fostering as well as you have!

Thank you for being so warm hearted and kind; this girl looks so sweet! I'm sure she appreciates what the Muppets' Rolph the dog called " a new leash on life"!

and I think her name could be Jolly Girl. You've mentioned it twice, and once I saw her photo I thought I could see it in her face.
How about Holly?
Then she could have the nickname Jolly Holly. :D
Thanks for the name suggestions!:D
We are still not her official family but we are throwing around the name Tilda just in case.
i really like Tilda!
I like the name Edith if i ever get another female.
I can call her Edie.
I like different names other than ones that are used a lot.
i am so glad you have taken her in :hearts:
I often think of getting another OES, female names I have kicked around are Molly and Abbey ( as in Abbey Road ).

one of my first OES was named Molly! We had Elsa, who had a litter of Molly, Mopsey and Jenny.

Patch's name was Abigail (Abby) when I got her - she didn't seem like an Abby or Abigail. I almost named her Winifred and was going to call her Fred - someone on here has a Winifred. I have a cousin in England whose name is Winifred and always liked it. But, finally decided on Patch because of the big black patch around her eye.
I likeTilda,so sweet,or you could choose Dolly,or Willow, or even Angel.

Beautiful girl and such a story! I think Sassy is perfect!
You all are so sweet. Right now we are calling her Sookie, she was Tabatha for a week or so).
We are supposed to take her back to be put up for adoption. This is incredibly difficult, she's so sweet and I dont want her to go through the stress of being back on hard floors and kenneled. But I just dont want to have 3 dogs. I am incredibly upset about the thought of taking her back in today. She will be well taken care of but she has such specific needs for a new home, primarily carpet, no stairs… that I am afraid it will be a long wait for a new home for her. The good news for her is that she is house trained and crate trained and gets along with everyone.
oh the poor thing! She sounds so great; I bet the perfect home is just around the corner for her! All our best wishes go out to Sookie

Awesome name! Please tell me you named her Sookie after Sookie Stackhouse? If you did, I don't need to explain who that is!

I did! and its kind of taking finally. She has some hearing issues and she seems to hear Sookie more easily.
We couldn't take her back in, so we are going to adopt her today. So now we have 3 big shaggy herding dogs. Sookie Truman & Roosevelt.

She is celebrating becoming a part of the family by having a very infected foot pop up overnight and leaving oozing gory footprints all over my house. :twitch:
ooooh! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :go:  :go: :yay:

I'm so glad for you, and for Sookie!!!!

The next Sheepdog name will be easy, "Bill". I love Sookie!!
I go along with the name Sassy, and good luck and enjoy!!!!!!
:D Just found this thread. So happy you're keepng her. :ghug: :cheer: :clappurple: :go:  :yay:
I too have a failed foster ! We support your decision to keep her whole heartedly . Our sheltie boy, Jamie, is turning into a sheer delight after a rough start. Still lots of issues...... but we love him and yes we have 3 dogs too. Makes life more fun.
