We've spent ...let's just say a CRAZY amount on furniture, lots of new home costs, unforeseen things, and a part of me feels bad getting it. On the other hand, as my boys get older... I can't imagine cooking on our crappy base model oven. I figure they will eat a lot and cooking two dishes at once will be handy even if it's baking fries and cooking meatloaf in the other oven. Been trying to sell the current oven for half its value on craigslist (no luck so far), and it's brand new. I'm really looking for reasons NOT to get it because I really want it but not sure I can justify it. My gut says just use the current one and then in a few years ...upgrade. It doesn't help Mr. J is saying "get it," so we can sell the current oven in the house as brand new esp. since it's cheap anyway. I'm trying to be reasonable here. My friends with 5 kids have 1 oven. What do you think (black one)? http://www.electroluxappliances.com/nod ... ctid=18093 I can't really find any reviews on it b/c it's so new ...at least to the US. I should have "Worst decision maker ...ever" under my title. I'm horrible! As I said in chat, it's been almost 3 weeks and I can't even choose paint for the walls. |
|
Get it! I'm sitting here exhausted from baking 170 loaves of bread this a.m. and grateful it was via convection ovens! Twice that time with conventional. 3 racks........think how quickly the cookies will be done. Gas, infinite control on top.......wonderful.
Second oven critical when making tht turkey and needing someplace to cook the green bean casserole or rolls. If that were two separate units, wall ovens and a separate stove top, I'm right there. |
jo, i havent installed one of these yet...but i read the specs on it and it looks pretty darn nice! i do know that electrolux makes fantastic products...
i say, if you like it, get it...... |

Details please! |
I have never seen an oven with a Sabbath mode before. Guess this is the oven for all the Orthodox Jews. It would be in Sabbath mode 24-7 at my mom's house. They live in Las Vegas. |
I would DIE making that many loaves. Are you getting paid for that?!?!?!

What the heck is a sabbath mode? How will convection oven change my baking time? Is there a trick to it (like estimate 10 min less or something?!?!) or will I just have to experiment with every dish? |
Orthodox Jews can't turn lights, applicances or anything else on or off during the Sabbath. So this device once set into Sabbath mode will stay on or off and none of the keys except temp control will work and opening the door won't turn on the light inside. Touching the buttons won't cause a beep, and it won't cause the display to change (after all, they're little lights). |
That's interesting |
I would love to get a double oven. My friend has one with the smaller oven on top and larger one below. I like that idea better - although for me I would probably use the smaller one much more than the larger (just 2 of us most of the time). For you, maybe the larger would get the most use.
I say go for it. |
I do too! But, I guess they're finding that people strain more when the bigger oven is on the bottom. It practically touches the ground (the doors), and when you've got a full casserole dish in the oven, you practically have to bend down to the floor. So they're starting to put the bigger one on top, and making the bottom which many people use as a warmer the small one.
I've read many reviews that say many people use the small one as their main oven because you save a lot more electricity ...not having to heat a big oven. I also hear many are designed so the big one is convection and the small one is just electric. My problem with going with a cheaper model is I keep hearing bad things as far as the small one only being good as a warmer because it doesn't heat correctly or takes FOREVER to heat up. Also a lot of reviews about many models being so difficult to clean. This one doesn't have those issues. I still don't know whether I'll get it. We just got surprised with another notice saying our builder never paid any of the bills in may or june which include carpeting, shutters, blinds, ...and then the word "etc." Well if they didn't pay the bills for may and june... what does that mean about july and aug (when we got the tile and other upgrades). Our title company should pay for it all, but this has been such a pain (the paperwork, lawyers, etc)!! I hate this builder esp. since they left all their employees with nothing and told them not to believe any of the rumors about them going under ...to keep selling. They were told the night before they were axed. There's a site that confirms that the owner of the company and family members continue to go on lavish spending sprees and possibly opening up a clothing line while laughing it up that they left loyal employees with nothing (Excuse me... some got a week worth of pay). |
GET IT GET IT GET IT!!!!!!
I want a double oven so badly. Just imagine Thanksgiving; turkey in one oven, pies baking in another. Or Christmas; you could have FOUR trays of cookies baking at one time! No, you won't use both ovens every day; but when you DO use them both, you'll be glad you got it! OMG get it, woman! do it NOW!!!!!!! (sorry if this is a bit much; I'm a little passionate about cooking.) |
Get it!!! I LOVE Electrolux products.
We have a sweeper-- and - long story short, the WHEEL fell off. Yes, the wheel fell off. We called Electrolux, and, two days ago received a brand new sweeper. In the mean time, my Dad fixed the wheel on the other one. So now we have an upstairs and downstairs sweeper. They handled the problem with great customer service, and it did not cost us one dime. The original sweeper was two years old. GET IT! |
170 loaves for Grecian Festival in Oct. Still need to make another 150-170. That will be next week. Two ladies come early and start the first batch of dough, then I arrive just in time to move the giant cauldron of dough (the yiayias are in their 70/80s and can't lift) and start two more.
When the first batch has risen, two other ladies magically show up to help portion and braid. I'm a slow braider so I'm shooed off to glaze, proof the bread again and bake........hence the wonderful convection ovens, 4 of them restaurant size. After baking and moving them to the cooling room I often go and wash the equipment. Fortunately today another lady came and did that for me.......I would have crawled home if I had to do that too. I haven't been swimming since April and boy can I feel my muscles and stamina leak away. Water aerobics just isn't enough for me. Packing is an all hands on deck, except for people washing. So yeah I wrapped a few but others did most of it and got them in the freezers. Between baking and wrapping we always find time for a good Greek lunch. We still have another 3,000 cookies to make by the end of the month. Fortunately a lot of that is sit down work so we get many helpers |
Wow! |
Mrs J...if you don't get this oven, you will never be happy. As often as you spend in your kitchen...your cooking/baking is also you hobby. If Mr J is right on board with it, I would say go for it. You never know what may be waiting down the line for you and you may not be able to upgrade in a few years.
Regarding your builders problems....My sister went through a similar problem that you are going through right now, a few years ago. The builder even moved in next door to her. He also filed bankruptcy, and left a lot of subcontractors not happy at all. It wasn't long before he had to move out of the neighborhood because of all the angry homeowners. Good luck getting everything straightened out there. |
I say get it too!!! Last yr I replaced all of my appliances. I do not regret getting the stove I wanted. |
^^
I thought everyone had good points but esp. violet noting that this is also a big hobby of mine. Mr. J is already tired of me saying "we should have gotten the oven" so we went out and got it for $1800 w/free delivery! Seems like a great deal considering all researching showing it at a lot higher. Thank Goodness for price matching and 10% discounts. |
Yeah!!!! |
Congrats on the new oven! |
I wanna come cook in your new kitchen! Congratulations! You'll have a good time with it! |
Enjoy, and be sure to share your opinion on it with us. I love cooking and I love gadgets! |

You have an expert in your home as far as the paint is concerned, the OES have been advertising for Dulux successfully for years and they are amazing when it comes to decorating, its in their blood, take yours along and let it choose for you, |

I immediatly thought about all of my UK friends on the Forum. My niece was in the same situation you are Mrs J and so she just hired an interior decorator...paid her for her ideas and used them as her "jump off" point. Always remember, if you pick a color and once it is on you don't like it, then paint over it. Good luck! |

I've never heard of Dulux Dog. I'll have to look for it. We just decided on a color for the walls today AND sold our other oven!!! Woohoo. We're all set now! |

Ok-- so -- what color??? Don't leave us hanging in suspence. |
It's called Delta Sandbar:
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/Match-of- ... 099103.htm And like me, wish I would have chosen this other color we found on the way home. It has more of a chocolate/purple tint to it (more of a brown but it looks like there's a hint of purple). Would have looked better with our red rug and espresso furniture. Ron changed the title under my name I see. It's so true about me. If I'm not completely organized (it's written down), I'll stand there for an hour w/o making a single decision. |

Will all rooms be the same color? |
We hired an artist who also painted homes to do our colors. She took our ideas and went more conservative. Most people looking to add color go too bold or too weak. There's a medium area that produces the best results.
Also the light through the windows and time of day the room is used most often plays a big role in color selection. If you are looking for color statement, it doesn't have to be all the walls. When we went with......orchid??.....in the livingroom because it was a color in the upholstery (I thought it was blue until the color chip chart was brought out) only one wall ended up orchid and then the walls in the hall behind. In the diningroom we went with one gold wall that is seen with the orchid hall wall....but the rest are a neutral colors. (Yes, colors. Due to the reflection from a window, the painter used two different colors so they would appear the same from inside the room....who would have thought?) End of bedroom hall wall is peach........a color the painter mixed on the spot as nothing else two companies made quite fit. It is amazing to work with a color specialist because they can show you how one company's colors tend to mute in one direction while another might go in a different direction. Who would have thought a whole company line would have this difference?! Hence if you are mixing companies, make sure they are compatible. Also outside she selected two different colors for the house trim. The underside is lighter than the vertical side so as to reflect more light inside the house. |
It is a lovely color but did you get a small sample and paint on the walls first?? What you saw on the way home may or may not be better. As I said above, each home affects the colors, each room, each wall....... |
I have a Dacor gas stove with an electric oven /convection oven. It's 12 years old now and I have never regretted it. Foodies need good appliances. Your oven sounds wonderful and I would love it. As you cook a lot it will be great for you . Congrats on a wise investment . |
The beauty came in today!! Furniture was scheduled for today but when I called, they said "no, you're not on our delivery list" which is like the millionth time now I've heard that. So 1 out of 2 is better than nothing!!
Now for the man to come home to hook up the gas/electric part. I can't even find the electrical outlet to it. I looked everywhere. I'm sure it's hiding behind some panel in the back. edit: Just got a call saying furniture is coming!!! edit again: Never buying furniture from this company again. Ever. Part of it is coming Tuesday. The rest is still "who knows where.." |
Go to fuse box, OK, circuit box and look to see if they even have a 220 line designated for your kitchen and a stove.......................gulp. |
SheepieBoss wrote: Go to fuse box, OK, circuit box and look to see if they even have a 220 line designated for your kitchen and a stove.......................gulp. Isn't it a gas stove? 110V, no? |
Good point Ron, if it's not a dual fuel stove, then the electrical will be just for lights, dials and the convection fan so only 110. If dual fuel both gas and electric, then it will be 220. Few contractors build for both unless specified. |
It's duel fuel. Gas top, electric oven. My mom brought her electric burner, and I've got an electric skillet, so I've been using that. The oven is so pretty... can't wait for someone to hook it up so I can use it. Will have to figure out how to adjust the cooking time since it's a convection oven. Any tips from anyone on how they adjusted their recipes? |
I also have a duel fuel unit and I find that when I cook with the oven in convection mode the time is about 1/3rd less. I love making roasts using the convection mode. Very quick and really juicy! Have not had a bad meal yet using the convection feature. When you first start to use it just check the items cooking more often until you get the feel of your oven. I did have a few batches of burned cookies in the beginning! I hope you love yours as much as I love mine.

You might want to get a meat probe that calls you when the temp has been reached. http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=131322 Yeah, it's a bit over the top, any good thermometer will work, but with this one you can wander away and it calls you. Remember to set it about 10 degrees lower than your preferred doneness temp as the residual heat carries it onward.......but you alread knew that.
I remember working on decorating a new opening restaurant and the owner was all ga-ga over his new convection ovens and the fantastic prime ribs he was making. He had to share portions with everyone. Paul and I ate there often after it opened. Yum. We use convection while baking, I find I still need to turn things as the freestanding breads may come on brown on one side, golden on another. |
The oven actually has a meat probe inside of it (connected to it). You just stick it in your meat and it comes up on the panel above when the meat is done. So I'm reading.
So our problems are getting bigger. We may have to expand our panel now. Having electrical issues. |
hmm I have had a dual convection standard oven for three years now - have yet to take the time to figure out when to use the convection part. perhaps that is this weeks project as I do want top make an oven pot roast on Thursday and only have a few hours to do so...... |
Adorable avatar! Yeah, I was afraid you'd have to add one or the other as both are not common offerings in a kitchen. Hope there is easy access to the kitchen!
Oh well, you'll have to do that too when you put in the spa or pool. Our electrical box has some extra add-ons too. |
