We have an old english puppy born, Apr. 23, 2008. She is our third old english. I have a question I need some help with. My husband just retired so he and Sophie go for a walk every morning. I am concerned that maybe they are walking too much for her age. How far is too far. They are going about 3 miles. She is up for more and so is he but I am really concerned. Any ideas on this. She is about 30 lbs and a real ball of energy. |

You need to see how she feels after the walk, if she comes back totally exhausted or balks while on the walk then she is telling you it is too far. If she comes back animated and full of energy, or even tired but revives after a brief rest it isn't .
Make sure it isn't too hot and she is well hydrated. |
I had two puppies at once and one would walk 3 miles at 4 months and take a short nap after getting home - the other one would be carried most of the way and take a long nap after getting home. He was very clear about when he had had enough |

That brings back memories of carrying home pooped puppies Walking and bouncing is fine. I'd be worried if the pup was climbing mountains, large rocks, etc. Maybe I'm being too cautious. There was one local Goldie breeder who would not allow her pups to climb stairs or adopt to home with stairs. Always wondered if they were hiding HD in the line. |
