To: hopefulhaven@yahoo.com Date: Thursday, August 28, 2008, 3:54 PM Please crosspost immediately! If you can open your farm land for people evacuating to house their livestock and have space to put up people evacuating with their livestock, please email me asap and let me know as we prepare for Hurricane approaching. We will keep an eye on it and let you know the needs as the week progresses. I only need the evacuation space to be in Northern LA, TX and Southern Ark and Southern OK.....Most people are just trying to get out of harms way for a few days until its safe to return. Livestock owners are usually a who different breed of people than just people looking for a shelter. These are cattle and horse owners who are escaping with their livelihood as we saw in Hurricane Rita. Please email me asap and let me know if you have space or land available to house during this time of disaster. Pray for mercy for all! Respectfully yours, Debra A. I have land, but I am a bit far away to be helpful. |
I too have land but am too far away. I hope everyone gets out in time .This is just awfull.... |
I would think some of the small town rodeo arenas would be a good start. I need to mention this to our disaster coordinator. I'm on call to help with any evacuations to the Dallas areas.
With people leaving earlier, hopefully it will go smoother. |
Is there a web site we can go to to offer to help foster pets.
I'm in Myrtle Beach SC and when Katrina hit, we had people this far fostering pets. I have farm space for horses, goats, dogs and cats. Hopefully in the future when we face our next hurricane someone might offer to help us out. |

You would think that there was some sort of headquarters or someone in charge of this after Katrina, but after running around here and there today it is a total friggin disaster. Noone is coordinating anything about the pets. We have all these different rescue groups that have come to town to help but noone is talking to the other groups so people evacuating don't know where to drop their pets off. Mayor Nagin in NO stated he had 15,000 pet carriers at the evacuation pick up spots but those that are getting to the evacuation sites can't find even a single pet carrier and unless the dog/pet is under 15 lbs it can't go on the bus with you. Also they are being told either they evacuate now or stay and they are on their own. There is no shelter in New Orleans being set up. |
I am in MD but could foster dogs. If any group could get them here maryland has a new group after a hurricane destroyed many homes (nothing like where you are) Sart ,state amergency response team. I feel so bad for everyone. Wish I could do more than pray... |
Are you going to be ok Wyn? Can you get yourself and dogs out of harm's way. We are worried and praying for you all. |
I know I am late to this discussion but more storms ar eon the way. isn't there a federal law that says pets are to be evacuated with people? |
has anyone heard from Wyn? Can we get a shout out from our pals in these storms paths? I want to know if everyone is okay.... |
Go to Gustav update in the chat topic. She is ok, but no power and no fence. |
thanks Wendy! |
