I'm sure more people in the FL area can give you pointers but a lot of places offer combo tickets to the parks so you can save some money that way. You should check out their web site for some deals and pricing. Also, a couple of Disney Pointers: If you're thinking about dining in one of the popular restaurants in the different parks, make reservations as soon as you get to the park or a head of time if possible. B) If you get to the park as soon as it opens make your way to the busiest ride first so lines won't be too long (ie., tower of terror in MGM). I'm sure others can add. All the Disney parks are amazing, really clean parks and friendly staff, you won't be disappointed... allow yourself at least one day for each Disney Park. Never been to Universal or Sea World but have heard great things about Sea World too. Cape Canaveral is only about 1 hour away which is pretty impressive if you like space travel (I would say if you're traveling with young children, Disney or Seaworld is the #1 choice.) You may also want to look into an everglades experience so that you can see some swamps and alligators.
Sorry, can't give you a lot of inexpensive advice, but the British pound is worth a lot more than the US dollar right now so hopefully that will help your finances. The beaches are always free, and for the most part, uncrowded and if you're flying into Orlando they are about 1-1.5 hours in distance depending if you want to go to the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean. Where is your Villa located? |
Hi,
Sounds like a lot of fun for you and your family! I like checking out things on the net as you can learn a lot about the area which you'll visit and popular attractions. It may also give hints as to how to get cheaper cost as many cities will offer booklets to tourist at a much lower rate if bought all together rather than seperately. I also like comparative shopping ..places like http://www.cheaptickets.com is helpful and I know there are others. Good luck in your search and have fun! I've been to both Disneyland in California and Disneyworld in Florida and you'll have as much fun as your kids! Universal studios is also a must see, never been to Seaworld. |
I can't imagine coming to Florida and NOT going to Disney! It's such fun and something that you must experience in your life. It's expensive - but you can do some things to limit that (for example - if you are staying somewhere that has a stove, etc. - you can eat in alot more than you would in a typical hotel). You can also pack a bag for Disney including bottled waters, soda, juice, snacks, etc. - and save a boat load of money on those things in the parks. You can usually do a multi-day pass at Disney and be able to visit all of the Disney theme parks (that's usually cheaper than buying them each day). I love all of those parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, etc.)
I didn't like Universal - but others I've spoken to loved it (as did Marianne). Seaworld I hear is incredible as well (although I haven't been in 20 years). Where will you be staying??? Kristen |
Florida is a pretty big state. Probably just under 7 hour drive from Miami to Jacksonville. If Orlando or Tampa (1.5 to 2 hour drive from Orlando) is your destination, Disney and the surrounding parks are your best bet. South Florida (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton) don't have many theme parks, but plenty of beaches, water and good food.
Key West is all about the tourist (3-4 hour drive from Miami). Naples, Ft. Meyers and Sarasota (Gulf Coast of FL) seem to be a little quieter than the East Coast. Tampa can be fun, but I don't know too much outside of the nightlife side of the city. Lots of golf to be had anywhere in the state. And can';t forget about Tallahassee or Gainsville where college american football rules (especially in September) fro Floridat State and the University of Florida. |
i think we will do disney but are looking for other things as well as theres going to be 6 kids and because 3 will be over 12 we are having to pay adult fare i couldnt come to the states and not do disney i was just wondering if its cheaper to buy on the gate then it would be to order now thanks dawn |
Hi Bobsmum
I'm off to Florida in May for the first time . Been looking at this website a lot to get some ideas http://www.thedibb.co.uk/index.php?s= Hope it helps. |
thanks for the help just trying to get as many ideas as possible only going to be there 1 week and want to do as much as we can |
If you are headed to the Tampa bay area- I can recommend a lot of beautiful beaches and great restuarant (we fgo down every year to the tampa bay area to visit my aunt)- Sarasota in particular has a lovely aquarium, a public garden, and " the pelican man" a small exhibit about a gentlman whop has dedicated his life to saving pelicans and other wildlife from fishing nets, etc. All are very affordable and family friendly. It just depends on if you are staying in the orlando area, or branching out to other parts of the state.
Also- my husband and I just honeymooned in Orlando. I'd HIGHLY recommend getting your hands on the "unofficial guide to Walt Disney World". It saved us just a ton of time, money, and headaches. One thing to keep in mind- the theme parks can be very INTENSE for really little ones- the attractions and all of the walking get the better of them. We saw a lot of 0-3 year olds that were really miserable. And that was during a really slow time of the year. The older kids had a blast, though. Do you know whereabouts you'll be staying? Karen |
thanks am not to sure yet he said 15 mins away from disney where do you get the un offical guide to disney from i will let you know where the villa is as soon as i know thanks dawn ,bobsmum |
Well, if it's 15min from Disney, you are going to be in the Orlando, buena Vista area. You will be very close to:
Walt Disney World Universal Studios Orlando Sea World Wet N' wild (water park) Maybe some FL locals can you give you good tips on some fun and cheap restaurants and other activites in the Orlando area. The parks are a ton of fun, but are also pricy and exhausting. Definitely try to take a day trip to the beach. Ok- Unofficial guide- I got mine at a local chain book store in the travel section. If your local stores or library doesn't have a copy, try online at Amazon.com- They ought to have it. Tickets- were definitely cheaper for us online (at Disney's own website), gate prices will almost always be higher. There are multipark tickets for a combo of universal and seaworld, which can save money if you're thinking of going to those parks. A good WDW website is www.mousesavers.com It has some great money saving advice. Phew! (Can you tell I spent a lot of time on research for my honeymoon?)I hope you enjoy your stay in our fair country!! Have a blast! Karen |
thanks for all the info you have been great dawn |
OK...Brit dude here.....and a lot of time in the US of A, especially Florida (i got a house there)
Be very careful of that time of year, it may look cheap but it is prone to bad weather so just be careful.
