Real Basic Brush Question

Hello,

We have had Kayla for over a year now and we have had her shaved three times (due to matting) and we would like to keep her at her current length (4 months of growth since last shaving / approx 1 to 2 inches).

My question is what type of brush is good for her daily brushing? She does not enjoy being brushed too much and we have been having it done by our groomer for now. We have a slicker brush to help with the mats but is there an easy to find (Petco, Pet Smart etc.) brush style you would reccomend for daily grooming?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Jay

In general, your slicker brush is not going to do the job. Think of it as more of a finishing brush. You want mor of a pin brush, with no balls on the end.

Just read through this entire section and you'll find several suggestions.

Here is one thread:

There are several other threads with people's suggestions..
I just got a brush from Dairymaid. It is almost the same as a no. 1 all systems brush, but the ends of the pins are rougher, and it really seem to fluff them up a lot more. I have both, but I really like the one with the rough ends.

You won't find the type you need at Petco, PetSmart or Pet SuppliesPlus. Their grroming tools are limited pretty much to basic dog brushing now & then. You need a pin brush with NO balls on the end. Scalpmaster, Hinds, All Systems are some fo the names. They can be purchased from dog show vendors or from catalogs such as Pet Edge etc. A longer pin leaves in more coat. The shorter pin tends to remove more coat. I have had good luck with the Scalpmaster. If you don't get to any dog shows on a regular basis, you may want to order more than one from the catalog and/or online site.
I like the Chris Christensen brushes. I just got a few PlushPuppy but haven't used them enough yet to know if I like them.
I currently have a #1 all systems pin brush. I ordered a brush from Dairymaid like the one Wendy is talking about. I'm waiting for it to arrive and excited to see how it does. I have heard good things so far on the forum here. The all systems brush works very well also no complaints here.
