Too much weight loss too fast?

Our vet wants Barney to be as slim as possible due to his hips. He's been as heavy as 99 pounds and we worked to get him down. As of his last vet appt about 3 months ago he weighed 91 pounds. At his vet appt a week and a half ago he weighed 84 pounds. The vet commented on that saying the he's too heavy still and needs to be in the upper 70s (which I personally feel would be too thin for him). But no comment on it being too fast or anything.

Throughout this whole skin itching issue we've switched foods for him and have switched to a more quality food, but are giving him the same amount as before. And he's also started patrolling the kitchen floors for dropped items and has become more obnoxious while we are eating or making food, which he's never done before.

Does this seem like too much of a drop too quickly? (7 pounds in 2+ months)

I don't think that is too bad, the recommended weight loss for PEOPLE is 1-2 lbs a week. Scale that down to 99lb size and you have a bit less than a lb a week. If he is acting alright I wouldn't worry.
It sounds good to me too... though I'm not doctor. :?

Could you give green him green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. as treats or
won't his tummy take it? These fillers are lower calorie but might be
satisfying. All of mine love these things... Kaytee sometimes gets picky and
wants hers steamed
Another good treat is an ice cube. My dog acts like she won the lottery when she gets one. Every time the freezer door is opened she is right there waiting. She'll even get up out of a deep sleep when she hears the freezer open.

No, his tummy will take it. He seems to have the stomach of steel. I have some green beans at home; I think I'll try those.

He's acting fine, and I figured he was fine, but I just wanted to see what others thought, given his recent issues.

Thanks!
Both my guys LOVE green beans! They even eat them frozen.

That makes some dogs throw up though, too. Clyde loved ice cubes when he was a puppy but as he grew up, the cold shocked his tummy too much and he'd puke within seconds. We don't want Barney to develop doggie bulimia!

Glacier isn't that cooth, she prefers them from the can, gag!
On the green beans, if you used canned please make sure you used "no salt added" green beans.

My parents' old dog Maggie LOVED ice cubes, but at some point, years into her having eaten them, they started to make her puke. It was so sad, too, because every time the ice dispenser went off she would race into the kitchen, only to be told no...
