Anyway, that's not worth whining over. My problem is that my vicious attack dog Bailey is VERY unhappy about the guys wandering around outside and on top of our house. Much barking, and growling, and throwing oneself bodily at the doors and windows in an attempt to scare off the trespassers (or get out and eat the trespassers - I'm not exactly sure what his plan is.). There seems to be no way to communicate to Bailey that these guys are supposed to be here. I don't want to scold him for the barking, because protecting the house is his job. But every muscle in my neck is in a knot and I have a headache. And I'm supposed to be working. So now he's on his leash tied to my desk in the office, where he can still hear the work crew but can't see them. This has cut the barking way down but I have to be very careful not to roll my desk chair over him as he changes position on the floor. It's going to be a long couple of days |

I'll try to cheer you up with my house-painting story.
We're DIYers....and DH does a lot of re-modeling side work, so painting the house was certainly not something we'd pay someone else to do! So, last spring, we take to stripping the wood work. We have a 85 year old brick house, but some owner before us painted it so now - - painted brick. Stupid, IMO but that's a rant for another day. Anyhow we're stripping the wood down to the grain because there are layers and layers and layers of flaking paint. And the day we were ready to shoot paint, the rain came. And it rained for six weeks. In Oklahoma. All spring/summer....rain rain rain. All the while our stripped wood sitting there exposed....I was certain I was going to see the eaves and windows and trim rot before my eyes. Finally it dried out and we got it done. But we didn't do the garage. We'll do that next year, we decided. The garage is all wood siding. And we added on so we needed to scrape the old siding, add the new siding and shoot the paint all at once. So about three weeks ago, we scraped the siding. Then we added the new siding to the addition. And the day we were ready to shoot paint, the rain came. and it rained for 10 days. In Oklahoma. In AUGUST! The damn paint got shot yesterday! I'm sure the constant barking is driving you mad! Can you take Bailey to a friend or family member for the day? |
Can Bailey go to Doggy Day care? maybe a nice afternoon out? Trip to the park or a friend's back yard? |
Have you seen your long range forecast? It may be longer than you think. May have to take the watch dog for car rides, stop by the vet for a drop in weigh session, take the loop around the city, stop at a doggie bakery.
Otherwise, crate time. |
With the contractors in and around the house, I have taken to introducing the dogs to the guys, I have three very protective sheepies and so it was the only way to keep the peace. I have a baby gate and they sit behind it watching the workers and if I let them out, they follow me to the couch, but still watch the workers. No more barking unless I leave and that is because they think they should be able to go every where with me... spoiled brats... but I love them |
They got all of the windows covered up today so they could start spraying paint. Bailey has calmed way down now that he can't see the guys anymore. He still gets excited if there is a loud bang or noise at the door, but most of the time all we can here is the motor on the paint machine so he's much calmer.
Bringing him out to meet the guys might be a good idea, he might get more comfortable if he sees me talking to them. After all of this growling, I'm not so sure that the crew would be enthusiastic about meeting Bailey though |
Meeting them is probably a good idea, though, Sue. He would be a lot more friendly toward their presence if he knew them. It's worth a try anyway. Might keep down the noise level a little. |
Believe me, I know EXACTLY how you feel. We just had our contractor here with heavy digging equipment to to level and make a pad for a garage. IT WAS 4 DAYS OF HELL!!!!!!!! Tasker wasn't too bad but Ty SHRIEKED the entire time.
There was one funny thing about it though. The contractor left his dozer and 18 wheel dump here at night and every time I would take the dogs out Ty would run over and lift his leg and pee on the dozer and the truck. He was going to SHOW THEM WHO WAS BOSS!!!!!!!!! Luckily the Garage is coming in 4 pieces and will just take about a half day to put together. |
Good boy Ty! |

Way to go Ty! Bailey is very interested in all of the equipment here - ladders and whatnot. He runs over there to check out the stuff every time he goes out - he knows that stuff doesn't "belong" in his yard. I haven't seen him pee on it... yet... We also need to get the pool resurfaced and that will take at least a week. I'm going to schedule that for a week I'm out of town LOL! |
at least your 2 day job IS only taking 2 days...my 6 week window fix/repair is STILL going on.......sigh.....
im not going to say anything BUT....you could have come over and had dinner and a playdate..... |
