Really Proud of Myself!!

I was going out this morning and when I got in the car and ready to start it "NOTHING". Sat there pondering should I call the RACV and get help to start the blasted thing.

Yesterday not a problem working fine, this morning Blup. blup, blup when I turned the key.

Opened the bonet, have no idea what is under there and poked around, Hmmm wonders of a motor and all the thingys under there. :lmt: Noticed the Battery Terminal covered in White fuzzy stuff, sooooo got some warm water and poured it over the terminal and washed that goopy stuff off. Put the key in and Brrrrrrrrm Working YAY.

I am so pleased with myself I got the car going, from someone who is clueless as to things that go and all the gadgets that lies beneath a car bonet 8)

Hmmmmm might take up employment as a Motor Mechanic :P

Last time something happened in the car was a flat Tyre and I could not get the Thingys off that hold the tyre on till someone nice stopped and helped me change the tyre, I did not even know where the spare was till that nice person showed me. Ooooh so am darn pleased with myself now and getting the car going

You upside down people have weird stuff down there. Bonet...that called a hood here. Tyre...weird spelling for tire.

Good for you getting the car going!!! I wouldn't even have bothered to open the bonet/hood because I know nothing and would rather keep it that way. If I had a flat tyre/tire, well heck thats what husbands are for :P
I had a 77 Pinto that used to have that problem - dusty gunk by the battery cables. I used to have to clean it a couple of times a week. A little baking soda in the mix works well, too.

I was always so proud when a big strong man would stop by to "help" and find me happily fixing the problem myself. I also had a tricky butterfly valve, and sometimes had to start my car by sticking a pen (only plastic ones) inside. I especially loved the looks I would get from the men who stopped to help me. They always looked so puzzled, especially when it then roared to life!

Here's to on the fly do it yourself natural born women "mechanics." Yay for you!!!!
Bravo Lisa, Bravo!
:twitch: That white stuff is REALLY important! PUT IT BACK!!

Great job! :D
Way to go :D
Way to go! :D
Wow that is great...I love it when you can fix stuff yourself.
lug nuts, lisa, lug nuts....the thingys that keep the tyres on...lol....

good job....but you should always know how to change a tire just in case...

im a girly girl, but my dad taught me how to change tires, oil and a battery...just in case....and unfortunately, ive actually had to DO all three.... :?

Ha Ha Did the white fuzzy stuff resemble any other white fuzzy stuff? Maybe some culprit was messing around under the bonnet.

Good job Lisa for fixing it yourself!
How clever of you to look under the hood (bonnet). I don't think I even know where the battery is.
Lisa, another non water based way to clean them off (always safer than pouring water in the engine) is just to get a wire brush and gently brush it away. Like someone else mentioned, a little baking soda paste is good, too. Even better? Get a man to do it for you. ;)
Jill my son told me the same thing when he got home from work, did not even know we had a wire brush in the garage anyhoooow I got the darn thing going to go out all by MYSELF

Aaah Lug nuts, I could not budge those things they were on so tight and it was great a nice bloke stopped to help a chick in need. Prefer it that way as my hands and clothes did not get grubby having to change a tyre. (You americans spell funny). :P I had a newer car and in the previous one the tyre was in a well in the back of the wagon. The new one found out it was underneath the car with a thingy under the car mat in the back that winds down the spare. So I would not of even known where the spare was even if I could of got the lugs off :?

RACV is roadside service, can you see why my hubby joined me in it.
Good job, Lisa! You figured it out on your own and got it running! Bravo!

Your husband is smart to have enrolled you in the RACV, though. I do know how to change a tire, battery, spark plugs, etc, but like you, I prefer to have someone else do it.
