Vegatarians

We have a nice size veggie garden and grow lots of different things. Occasionally we will get a bug eaten tomato or zucchini and just throw it out into the yard much to the doggies delight. They love them. My little veggie eaters. Well this morning while picking tomatoes, I heard a rustling behind me. I look over and there is Sophie eating tomatoes right off the vine   . Mind you she knew she was being a naughty little pup because they are trained not to go in the garden. I guess I didnt find any bug eaten tomatoes for her this am and she thought she would help herself.

We used to have a Bouvier who would pick our raspberry bushes clean. We'd go out there ready to pick and he'd be laying there was a red rimmed mouth.
  Ah, reminds me of the good old days:

Stella, the Pyr pup who hid in the raspberry bed while I was filming a TV garden segment....she was just watching and snacking. Got her on film...wherever it is.

Abbott the fruit picking Newfloundland.....wondered why my currants and cherries only produced fruit higher up.

Basil...oh Basil.....the St. B who followed behind us as we dug garlic and tossed it aside to dry. He had a vet appointment later that day....we hung our heads our of the car driving him there and the vet wisely decided that would be an outdoor examination.

Basil knew he was not allowed in the garden so daily checked the zucchini progress. When a fruit crossed the border between lawn and garden, he claimed it. I also learned not to grow climbing green beans on the deck posts......they were perfect St.B height. And need I mention a super ripe beefsteak tomato exploding in that giant mouth...... :o

Fortunately I've been able to convince this dog family food is served in the house, not al fresco, straight from the garden....or in the garden.

I guess Sophie knows veggies are good for her and couldn't wait!
Last summer Morgan and Marley ate all the winter squash and eggplant they could safely reach ( so they thought ) in the yard. Well I knew they could venture further afield (as it were) when wearing their fence collars. Unfortunately they have learned this as well this year. Morgan is now camping out in the tomato patches awaiting each and every ripe tomato.

I've taken up going to the farmer's market
My Border Collie growing up always ate our raspberries and gooseberries - we loved watching her!
