I don't know anything about the gentle leader, but I did want to say hurry home....the sun should be back out by Tuesday. Tropical Storm Fay seems to like it here and has been sitting right on top of us here in Brevard County for a day so far....7 inches of rain yesterday and still raining today. There is a lot of flooding, I drove through two areas of flooding yesterday. So by the time you get here everything should be extra green from all the rain. Have a safe trip and good luck with the Gentle Leader. |
No, he is not too old to learn how to walk with the gentle leader. As to how to use it....the manufacturer has some guides on their website http://www.gentleleader.com/View.aspx?page=dogs/guides.
I've found that most dogs learn to use it fairly easily...especially if you bribe them with some fantastic treats (I use sliced hot dogs, microwaved for about a minute). I've found the Gentle Leader is great for walking my niece's labrador retriever. He would try to pull my arm off without it...with the Gentle Leader on, he walks nicely near me. Note: we did have to train him for a few sessions before he was comfortable with the Gentle Leader. He kept on trying to pull it off his nose. Once we got it fitted correctly, he was fine. Good luck and please keep us informed on how you are doing. Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Abby |
one of our dogs is great and 8 year old can walk her. Make sure it is fitted the right way. I heard they can get out of it if they reverese and struggle with it, I never had that problem. My other dog I am going to retry now that he is older, he was nut when he was a baby. We usually walk the the bushs but with winter around the corner we may have to return to side walks. |
Gentle leaders are really great. The require some training and adjusting on your part but they stop the constant pulling. Bella is not fond of having it put on but she knows that we are going for a walk and so she accepts it. Treats work well as an incentive as well. |
I just bought one 2 weeks ago (they are $28AU dollars here) after ending up with 5 blisters on one hand from my 8 month old pup, brought it home and watched the dvd that comes with it ......tried it on ...... adjusted it while giving treats .....walked him around the house for 5 minutes and then put it away. We tried 4 different size Haltis and henry managed to back out of all of them! but he can't get out of the gentle leader:lol:and he has certainly tried.
Put it on the next day and took him for a walk and OMG I WAS SPEECHLESS It was like I was walking someone elses dog so now I have to go and buy another one when we expand the family |
