Apparently, her small but long-legged dog jumped up and bit Phoebe on the shoulder. Phoebe is on the small side for an OES: 56 lbs. Phoebe has a single, puncture wound which we thoroughly cleaned with antibiotic soap, rinsed out with hydrogen perioxide and dressed with antibiotic ointment. Phoebe's coat is short for the summer but we trimmed the hair around the wound. (Phoebe is a very patient girl who didn't protest when we treated the wound.) Phoebe does not seem the least bit stressed. Our vet is opened on Sunday. Do you think she needs an oral antibiotic? I want to take her to the vet but my husband thinks I'm over reacting. |

This happened to my mom and she did the same thing as you, she phoned the vet and he told her what she did was good, just keep an eye on her. |
Call your vet. Puncture wounds, such as bites, are more prone to infection. Not everyone of them will get infected though.....
Good luck. |
