Wow...
I am going to have to look for those. I would love something to help just a bit with Baloo (he never has enough patience with me grooming) |
They are on back order, but I found them at Petco.com. Just waiting for them! |
How old is your sheepie? I have a 11 month old female and cannot groom her for more than 5 minutes at a time. I try to brush her every day and she has not increased her time staying still for several months. She is also very resistant to gettting nails clipped, hair trimmed around pads, etc. I'm just wondering if this is something that would be safe to give a younger dog, or any dog for that matter...... |
Okay, I just read the reviews on these treats at Petco.com and I would feel weird giving them to Jackson. Is it normal/accepted to drug your dog for training/grooming purposes? Also, if you used these treats to train your dog/modify behaviors does anyone think that the new behaviors would stick once the treats were removed? I am just very protective of my puppy and would hate to do anything to hurt her!! |
dogs can be medicated to be calmed and then training can take place.
I never considered using a calming agent to groom - actually grooming itself always seems to calm my dogs - actually can put them to sleep. the trick is to only spend five minutes a t a time when they are little. then treat and play and repeat. |

Also...when Heart was younger, I would 'play' with her feet, face, mouth, tusch...very lightly touching to she would always be OK with it..(Heart came to me with NO issues about being touched or held.) I always had the brush out and while watching TV with Heart laying next to me, I would just (again) very lightly brush just the top hairs. It became very comforting to her..so when I was ready to brush, she WAS more tolerant and patient before trying to run..... And finally, I would sit on the floor and dry my hair with her sitting right beside me, every once in a while turning the blow dryer on her so she would become use to the dryer.. It seemed to work for me...good luck ~~~~ |
sheepiesake - good tip on the hair dryer, there will probably come a day when I will need Jackson to be used to one so should probably start now (I have no plans to keep her in a full coat or do any showing with her so we normally just towel/air dry after a bath). |
