You may have to expand your area and reconsider what is drivable.
On the other hand both my puppies came from recognized breeders and were shipped. I would not rule that out. Also you may have to wait. I waited two years befor ethe right dogs cam along - they just came almost at the same time |
Lucky for you you are in a decent area for reputable breeders. Maybe not one town over, but within driving distance.
You can start by checking out the OESCA breeder referral list if you haven't already: http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... ferral.htm If it was me, I'd be calling Madeline Erickson just outside of Rochester, NY. I have no idea if she has any litters planned, but if she doesn't she can probably give you some ideas on who to contact in NY and possibly beyond. Kristine |
There are 5 breeders listed on the OESCA site in New York. You may want to start there or check out Rescue in your area. They are not always the easiest breed to find. Please, for your own sake and the new pup's, find a reputable breeder. They will be there for the life of your dog.
Good luck!!!! |

Kerry, it's hard to wait two years when your heart is broken and your house is empty. Maybe you can rent her one of yours in the interim? After I lost my first OES I was a basket case. OK, so I did end up waiting two years for the right dog, who wasn't a puppy either for that matter. But I was a serious danger to sheepdog society in the mean time and would do almost anything to get a fix. It was embarrrassing Kristine |
I also know a great breeder who ships from Buffalo NY. I think she may have puppies now, but I have been asked not to mention any names on this forum. If you p.m. me I can direct you to her website. |

Kristine some days I may be inclined to pay her But seriously the wait can be interminable - and I know NY breeders are not always easy to deal with - I have/had one in my backyard who wouldn't place a show puppy nearby. And honestly just because someone is listed in OESCA doesn't mean thy have the right dog for you (I believe that was put PC enough) And you know what - it shouldn't be as hard as it is to find a good sheepdog. Other breeds manage to balance supply and demand better than we seem to do - at least in parts of the country. Shipping is not a bad thing. |
