Hiccups

I don't know if I'm just being "a new Mom" and worrying about everything ... but Luna has had hiccups alot for the past week. She usually gets them once some times twice a day. Is this normal?

She's also randomly yelps likes she is in pain. Earlier today she was sitting on the floor and started to lay on her side and yelped in pain. I keep looking her over and touch her legs and sides of her body .. to try to feel where she is getting pain, but I can never find anything and she doesn't yelp when I do this.

Maybe I'm just being a little too worried, but I want to make sure she's alright. I've waited a very long time to get a sheep dog and I wanted to be a good mommy to my little girl.

Anyways, any thoughts or opinions are welcomed.

Thank you,

Danielle

Danielle...
You are a good mommy....you are asking questions, worrying, being there for your furbaby.. If you are concerned about the yelping, a trip to the vet would not be a bad idea.

As far hiccups..

I remember Heart would have them...ALOT!!!   Her little furry body would just bobble and both the other dogs would go to her and watch her, like "What the heck>>>>?????"..It was so funny and CUTE!!!!

Hang in there, enjoy this time..it goes SSOOOOOO FAST!!!!!
I'm not sure about the yelping issue... but HICCUPS...... Baloo used to get hiccups all the time when he was little. At least everyday it seemed! He doesn't get them like that anymore. In fact he did have hiccups over the weekend and it was my husband who pointed out that it was the first time in many many months that we'd seen ballo hiccup. I wouldn't worry to terrible much on those.

I'm not sure about the yelping.... maybe try and keep a record of all events that lead up to it each time. Like is it after runninig around a bit, or eating dinner, etc.

Hope you find the source. Keep us posted
Just like all babies...they get hiccups a lot because they have immature systems. The yelping I would keep an eye on.
Hudson gets them all the time. Our vet says that puppies and hiccups are perfectly normal.

I don't know about the yelping. That's something I'd definitely keep an eye on.
Thanks for all the responses! I think I'm going to take his_Armywife log suggestion and see if I can find a pattern. Of course if it gets worse or more frequent, I will take her to the vet!

But it was nice to know that hiccups seems to be a common thing in their age. It is kind of cute to watch her when she hicups because she's fine then she'll hiccup and she'll stop whatever she's doing as if she is thinking "what was that?!" Ah, puppies as just so adorable.

Thanks for all your concern and I will let you know hows she's doing!
I was wondering about hiccups too and I just knew I would find the answer here using the search function. So many questions already answered. . . Thanks!
Jack yelps when his "pillows", those pillows at the knee, break open. He came with them, not a callus as you'd expect for that area, but pillows of dry puss.......sorry, can't think what else to call them. Normally they don't bother him, but once in awhile they'll swell to the point of breaking open. It looks so sore.

Also somebody will yelp if the fur in the rub spots is matting or tangled to where certain movements hurt......like climbing onto something. Then I know I've not been good about groin brushing and clipping it necessary.
Langley gets the hiccups. I give him a cookie to get rid of them only thing that works.
Morgan had both those issues as a pup.

As everyone says hiccups normal, yelping no so much.

What I found
1) he is a woos - no really he will yelp if anything surprises him, or startles him, forget combing him out, still does it! pretty funny as he is a moose.
2) I always suspected his hips were an issue and they are, not real bad, just not real good.

Keep up with the vet and mention these things to him/her - you never know what they may find.
Wow! I am so glad this forum is here.

Dahlia has the hiccups and I have never seen that in a puppy! Quick search---and here we are! Yes! She is "normal"

I gave her a cheerio and she is fixed!
you do realize dahlia will be back for more cheerios?

where is that memory forum??????????
anyway, it seems to me that some of our sheepie pups like to yelp for no apparent reason as i recall. i know one who had me alarmed doing it and had no health issues. think he liked the sound of his own voice or still missed his mom at times. i hope this is the case, although everyone has steered you well as to checking on causes.
I remember both my dogs when pups did hiccup a little. But the yelping in pain would get my concern up. If that continues, I would definately make a Vet visit. Maybe excessive gas causing her to yelp ( gas can be painful!) and then the hiccups? Maybe try giving her a gas x or two...And check her food. Maybe cut the meals to feed her two or three a day instead of one...maybe change her food to something less gassy...Hope she feels better.
She just gets the hiccups---no yelping.... They don't last long, but, her little body just looks funny when she has them.

I am noticing it if she drinks water quickly....

The cherrios work.... and yes, she does come back for more. I find them a good training treat in addition to her other training treats.
Mady hiccuped all the time when she was a little puppy. She hiccuped almost the whole 8 hour drive home from the breeder, and poor Kim thought she was having seizures (just the start in Kim's long, unrelenting paranoia and over-fretting about Mady :D )
