The Blue Riviera
The house I dreamed of for my animals...the one I thought in a small fraction of hope may be a dream come true, if it was possible to sell my home and purchase it. A place for animals to live out their lives with room to roam for them all. In the heart of the city and not the country but due to having power lines next to the acreage the second lot was not attracting developers as no second home was allowed on the property. A house with acreage in the middle of the city that would normally be worth millions, the only house on the entire block. Not crazy about having power lines close by but still thrilled as affordable to someone that wanted it for aged senior animals to live out their lives. My dream.It's why I loved it! A second lot with gorgeous trails and those incredibly detailed minitures of famous hotels and churches that recreated the Cariboo Gold Trail. How I could visualize myself living there with the animals. The name Riviera, was chosen as some of you know, for the sweet old OES dog I couldn't save from the shelter whose face still continues to haunt me. He remains the driving force as to why I became more and more involved in rescue. Blue, because my Ole boy will be forever remembered. I kept the photos of that home in my car and looked at them constantly. I tried to get the financing to purchase that home without first selling mine. To move aprox 30 animals seemed too daunting a task and how I wished I could buy that other house, move them over, then have mine empty and not care how many came over to view it. Better yet, would be awesome to even keep my other house and rent it. Then again,I was on my own and how the heck would I even be able to manage that financially? I was going to sell my home but then the prices started dropping - a buyers market... a nightmare to sell mine at this time. Then magic happened..sort of. The fellow I've had a relationship for 7 years who lived on the other side of the Continent...finally had a wonderful job offer in Canada, but was awaiting his immigration papers. For 7 years he's been visiting me ( We met in Paris in 2001) but as he held a wonderful job in in own country and I was unwilling to move over there we were at a standstill. Months had gone by and we feared the job offer would now fall through. Finally the papers through! Perhaps there was a chance to get that home after all? It would be six more weeks until he arrived. A week after he arrived I took him to see the house. Just one look at the lot (he didn't see the inside) he wanted it too. The people came outside and we spoke to them and they informed me - there was an offer on the table. No! After it being for sale for one year - why now? I was so close to making it possible! The other offer fell through. We made an appointment to see the home. 1/2 hr before leaving - a dissapointing call. They got new financing - the house was gone. I was so dissapointed..so close and waiting so long for that house to be deterred only by a matter of days. A week later The other people's offer didn't go through again and yesterday we got the call. We made an appointment to see the inside - it had been my third time..and probably the sixth viewing that yard. (I only cared about that wonderful yard). The other person who was interested was trying to gather financing again. We put in an offer last night. No bickering back and forth....nothing. They accepted. Providing all works out well - that house is mine on Oct 20th. They have an old 11 year lab with a grizzled muzzle and feared what would happen to him when they moved into a condo. The old woman who owns the home and lives with her daughter and son in law feared what would happen to her beloved dog. On my frequent visits I always jokingly but also seriously said..."he comes with the house right? You can leave him here". Blue's twin almost but for a larger size. She had wanted it to be me to get the home. Perhaps Karma is at work?

Marianne, you have been a wonderful saviour for many many animals. Your kind, gentle and compassionate. I am not surprised that you have attained your dream house..I AM surprised that is took this long for the Karma to come back to you.... Congratulations..and many pictures of your dream when you can. |
| Thanks so much for those kind words. However, there are so many people on this forum who also have saved many lives and are just as worthy of mention. Kudos to them too and everyone here who does their part which is just equally as important.
I'm going to be a nutcase for the next 8 days (have to wait now for my finacing to go through but if all goes well it will be official). Hope I haven't jinxed myself. I also promised another rescue that I would take that poor ole dog that's been chained for his entire life that I once wrote about. She said it would be possible to rescue him but who would take him? I said If I got that house I'd take him too. No neighbors so no one to compain if I'm over my limit of 2 dogs.

I'm so excited, happy, elated and just plain smiling from ear to ear for you! How absolutly wonderful, I can't imagine the ups and downs you have gone through the excitement, the let downs, the excitement and now you can call this slice of heaven home... I'm so happy. Now that you have a place that all wonderful critters can live out their natural lives with love and care, how about a place for a few of us critter lovers too! 
I can't imagine a better person and I'm sure that the owner knew what kind of heart you had and that is why she wanted you to get it. I will bet Ole Blue had something to do with it too, you know a good word to the right ear
The photos look amazing, I can see bunnies hopping around and lazy ole dogs laying in the sun and you watering your flower garden... with a big hat on... So happy for you! Leslie |

I didn't hear the story of Riviera but, I guess we had a similar story with a little lady Cricket. She never got to come to her new home from the shelter. Wow You have so much going on.... | I was going to suggest running a B&B out of the house to help with expenses, but then realized, God has not given any of us 35 hour days which you'd surely need.

The bank came through at the 11th hour to say yes to the financing. 11th hour is an expression of course but they called at 4:50 or something with confirmation and the bank closed at 5 pm. I thought I was going to die while waiting. I'm rushing out the door at this moment to remove all subjects and the house is officially ours. Apologies for not commenting on recent stories as you guys are important to me but I've been overwhelmed with brokers, realtors, appraisers, inspectors, Government Agencies and work places. My mind is so boggled! I promise to come back in a day or two after some much needed rest and tell you guys the story. Marianne |
