Anyone have a dog rip a nail out of the socket before?

Our little accident-prone terrier got his nail caught in our door threshold and ripped it clear out of the socket. My mom was taking care of him at the time. He yiped, there was some blood, not as much as you would expect though, but with exception to some licking, he doesn't see too bothered by it.

I'm just going to keep an eye on it and treat it with some antibiotic ointment. Anyone else ever experience this?? Kind of creeping me out. Will his nail grow back???

I had a girl do it as she was getting off the grooming table at a show once! Blood everywhere! Luckily my breeder's vet was there, took a look at it, gave her some stuff to halt the bleeding & about 1 hour later she went into the ring & went winner's bitch! Yes, the nail did grow back over time. Didn't seem to bother her near as much as it bothered us humans at the time!
yea it happens. Sometimes we at the vets office even deliberately rip one out if they broke/ cracked the toenail. itll heal, try to keep them from licking cause that could cause a secondary infection but otherwise theyll be fine.
Yep, it will grow back. He may be a bit limpy for awhile, but actually not as serious as it seems!

The family I do pediatric home nursing for had it happen a month ago to their golden retriever. He caught it somehow on the RV steps when they were camping. All better now - partially regrown and no limp or licking.
My knees are now weak.

Iii had a cocker spaniel that did that once, I remember it bled like crazy but it did heal and grow back.
You guys are the best, I knew that people here must have had this happen before. Thanks for the encouragement and I'm glad to hear that his nail will be growing back.

He was fine the whole day he did it, but the next morning he was gimping around and licking it so I ended up giving him a little pain med & wrapped his teeny little foot. He did not fuss with the wrapped foot at all which was amazing to me.
