yep, they are actually blue merle not black |
Panda will be 4 in October... her coat isn't true black
but it is much darker than Emma, Darby and Kaytee's. They just got super short haircuts... http://oesusa.com/CoatColors.jpg |

Although the statement from Kerry is correct in most cases, there are some sheepies who do remain black all there life. |
wow neat he looked like a full grown puppy. |
Wow.... Not Baloo. He has more gray than my mom does and she's 75!!! |
Pepsi is 4 1/2 yrs old and is very dark, dark gray like Panda in the post above. He does have a light grey merle triangle on his tummy. He has had the gray triangle since I got him at 10 months old. It has only recently changed to a merle. Weird!
When I shave him his color lightens up a little. |
My 9-month old pup doesn't show any signs of changing coat or color yet. I brush him at least every other day, and yet he is getting a lot of mats.

The mats are the precursor of the gray. I'm not sure if that's good news or not They all change at different rates. Sybil starting changing before Mace, but Mace is basically through her first complete coat change, while Sybil's coat is still changing. Oh, well. If it gets too bad, you can always have him shaved. It doesn't actually make the gray come in faster, but you see it sooner and you don't have to fight with all those mats. Kristine |

Kristine Tonks started turning gray at like 4 months, and she started to mat up at about 7 or 8 months old. Luna went grey not much later, but much more slowly, and she began to mat up at 9 months. So thier matting happened well after they began to go gray. I wish they'd stayed darker alot longer; your 9 month old looks so beautiful!!! |
hmm interesting comments about matts
Archie is greyer than a big grizzly grey thing, yet he has never had any matts in his grey hair, just in his white, and although I had been sceptical, before, yes they do sometimes appear over night or even in the middle of the day |
someone suggested i get them some fish oil to add to their food, and it would help with the matting. I instead got a Salmon wet food to add to their kibble, and I did see a big difference! |
Not doubting your word, but how does that work, what is the science behind it? |

Vitamin E and Omega 3's are found in Fish; both are supposed to benefit hair and skin growth. |
erm wouldn't that promote more matts?
Where did Archies black coat go? |
My last litter (Heart, Checkers, Calypso & Button's,, Tush & Jack) most started graying out at 4 months. By 7 months I would say that most had started the matting/coat change. Now at 14 months some have gone through the matting phase and Checkers started it I heard about 2 weeks ago and Calypso has yet to do it.
I know their mom, Delilah never did matt with coat changes. It was the thickest coat i had ever had, but these 2 babies are even more than hers. Just need to get more length on Caly's coat.......... but she has turned a beautiful gray........ |
