My best buddy Robin died in Sep. 1999. I just found this site, and am crying as I write this. Robin was an important member of our family for 12 years. He agreed to live with us when he was about 18 months old. We had spent one summer on a Fire Lookout and were going back for a second one, and told Robin we were headed back to the top of a mt. for the summer and that's when he agreed to accompany us. He absolutely loved it up there. My best memories of him are of the mornings when he & I were the only ones there - I'd wake up, let Robin out, then build a fire in the stove, walk down to the toilet then back up to the Lookout. Robin would accompany me in both directions, prancing through the blueberry bushes, snuffling & laughing & exploring. On the way back we would begin hearing the stove crackling & popping. After breakfast he would sit with me at the edge of the abyss while I enjoyed a cup of tea and admired the view of Mt. Rainier, about 10 miles away. Fantastic mornings with Robin. There was also the time my wife was there with just Robin when Robin would not let a guy into the lookout whom my wife was a bit leery about too - Robin did not budge & the guy did not get in, no one got hurt and it turned out all good. He earned HIS dog biscuits that day! All in all we spent 5 summers there & Robin went with us to the ocean and on many a trip. A great friend. A last memory - Robin had every right to have really hurt me once when I actually stepped barefoot on him in the middle of the night. He jumped - snarled - naturally - and grabbed my leg. Then quickly let go - not even a bruise. I was down on my knees apologizing very quickly. I still miss him. Playful, strong, gentle, a wonderful friend. ( Another mention of Robin is on Care2.com under a post title "The Night of The Mouse") - an "adventure" he & I had one night at Suntop. Go the the blog site, find the search space, type in Alt's Sharebook then cycle through the stories until "The Night - - - shows up. |

welcome, friend. |
Thanks to all who have replied to my post about my buddy, Robin. I did not know how much I still miss him until I started to write my post. These are such wonderful dogs. I hope we can have another one day. I'd like to think Robin would feel better if we did! Thank you all for your kind words. |
Hi Dan,
Thank you so much for sharing your story about Robin.
We all get so close to our Sheepies because of the special
bond they create with us. We still talk about our first
sheepie Prince who we lost to cancer in 1987. He was
quite a family member with his clown like ways, a gentle
sweet guy. His BIG bark kept many unwanted visitor
to leave the property. Truth be known, he would have
done the sheepie shake and given kisses.
I hope someday soon a sheepdog finds his or her way
to your family. I am sure your family made Robin's days
special, as you shared wonderful times with him.
Please join OES.org, you will find lots of great discussions here.
And you have lots of sheepie experience to share! |
Thank you for sharing your special Robin with us. Even though he's not with you here, he lives in your heart and in all the wonderful memories you share with others |
