HI from St. Louis.......
Is that Bally as your avitar??? WHAT a cutie!!!! I bet you can't wait!! I have Pearl, 11 years old..she is the last one in my avitar ( the others sheepies are friends of ours)....Cos, my Beardie, is the proverbial middle child and ............and finally, another OES.....Heart, my baby flew to me last July..She is 14 months old. They grow sooo fast and do sooo many things...This is the best place for advice, support and all round friendship!!! There are quite a few forum members waiting for their 'babies' so you are in GREAT company! Please keep up posted....and get lots of rest before Bally comes!!! |
So darn cute!
Congrats... No ideas on a long trip with a little pup but, I bet you will get some good advice here! Welcome and can't wait to hear about the new baby! Puppies all around!!!! |
Thanks for your warm welcome
yes, that's Bally in my avatar - he's only 4 weeks old in that one Pearl looks like a real sweetie, and isn't she lucky to have so many sheepie friends! I've never had an OES before, but my family has had many other big dogs (Briards, anetolian shepherds, Great Danes). This is my first puppy in a looong time, we usually have rescue dogs, so I'm a bit rusty I'll keep you all posted on Bally's arrival |
When we brought home Portage and ThePas, littermates, we drove over six hours with them in the car.
They were pretty good, but we learned one thing pretty quick. Initially we loaded them both into one large crate and put it securely in the back of our van. My husband and I sat in the back seat to be close to them, and my parents (who were as excited as we were and volunteered to come along) were in the front seat. They howled, cried, and whined nonstop. We tried cooing, soothing, etc. Finally my oh, so, sensible father pulled over (without a word), opened the back of the van (I thought he might be at the end of his rope and ready to leave them by the side of the road), pulled out the crate, turned it 180 degrees so the opening was FACING us, and resecured it. Once they could see us (instead of the door) they were fascinated by us, and we didn't hear another sound. They fell asleep shortly after. What a slimple solution, and it never would have come to me. As always, thank goodness for my dad and his common sense! Just remember to stop for many pee breaks for a tiny bladder, and keep your newbie aware that you are there with him. And congratulations on your puppy. He looks like a real cutie! You are so lucky. |
Thanks for your advice! I used to have a siamese cat who hated car trips until I worked out the same trick it seems so obvious once you work it out! |
Welcome to the Forum from Alaska!
Your little pup is so cute, I just want to pick him and and hug him! I definately understand "I just can't wait" ... I just picked up my Luna on Friday and the waiting seemed like forever, but it was well worth it. Keep us posted on Bally's progress and in the mean time, make sure you have you batteries charged for your camera! |
Welcome to the Forum from Florida! I am so looking forward to hearing about Bally as he grows. Love his pic. |
Thanks everyone I'll send you my updated pics each week as I get them, and, of course, when the little boy arrives you'll be bored senseless by tales of every moment of his day |
Congratulations! Welcome to the forum from Massachusetts.
Bally is so sweet! There is a wealth of information on OES.org and lots of great advice. You will soon see what a pleasure it is to have a Sheepie in your home. They are loving, happy, have a great sense of humor. It will be no time until Bally has you trained. You might want to line up a groomer and look for training classes so they are in place when you need them. Looking forward to Bally's arrival at home pictures! |

I agree with Zahra; I had my Tonks and Luna enrolled in puppy school before they were even home with me! Its a great way to start socialization, as well as training. |

Luckily, the vet I have chosen also runs puppy pre-school So I'm all set there Oh, and I've added some more pics if you're interested Thanks for your advice everyone!! |
CONGRATULATIONS!!! WOW he really is a cutie
When we picked up Rufus we had to drive for 3 hours, there was lots of poop and wee in the car, I'm glad I was driving- Greg sat in the back. The breeder suggested getting a box with one side cut out so he could be in there, luckily that's where all the mess ended up. We took paper towels, baby wipes, bottles of water for clean-ups and used it all!! I can't wait to see more pics- a big WELCOME to you from the UK |
Thought I'd point something out, just in case you got as confused as my brother. Bally's name is short for 'Balius', so it's pronounced like 'Alley' but with a B, it's not pronounced like a rolling, bouncing object (although that would be quite appropriate!) |
Congratulations to you and Bally. I'll look forward to seeing more pictures and reading stories about Bally's adventures. |
Here are the latest photos my breeder sent of little Bally at 5 and a half weeks old
