We have a new OES girl staying with us until we can find a furever home for her. Some of you may have read Ron's post last winter that directed us to a blog written by one of my neighbors. The blog included information on the families adoption of a 1 year old OES named Marley. I met my blogging neighbors several months ago and told them if they needed any Sheepie help, just call! Meanwhile, our other Sheepie neighbor told them on occasion we foster and work with rescues. My husband received a call from the family last week telling him they had to find a home for Marley. The family is working too many hours and they now have a baby on the way. Marley had started to pee in her crate and is chewing on furniture. The family thought it was because she sensed the pregnancy although I was told nothing had changed for Marley since the pregnancy started. The family was very good to Marley, walks, training, etc, and now they couldn't take time to identify the dogs issue and take care of it. Oh well, I have my personal opinion, but I'll leave it as that. Miss Marley will be 2 on November 15. Life hasn't been easy as she started in a home where the people were gone 15 hours a day and she was kept in the garage. My neighbors adopted her at about 1 year old, not housebroken and a body full of mats. She is sweet and very smart, certainly not derived from intentional breeding. It didn't take long after she arrived for me to start thinking "a third Sheepie wouldn't be so bad". She will sit, shake, speak, and stay(mostly) on command. Her leash manners need a little refining. She loves, loves, loves to play with toys and smiles the entire time. Miss Marley likes other dogs, cats, and children. Rides in the car are a pleasure. Here's our Miss Marley She's a tall gal, so I'm partial I couldn't get a photo of her beautiful wall eyes |

Marley is a cutie.
Are you fostering her or going to keep her? How does she get along with yours? Whatever you decide, it sounds like she is at apoint in her life where she is in need a bit of help, and hopefully some permanency. |
She's beautiful. I just don't understand some people. I couldn't let go of my sheepie any more than I could my heart. I'll say a prayer that her forever family is found.

What a beautiful girl! I'm glad someone as sensitive as yourself was readily available to step in and help this sweetie! |

My thoughts exactly!!!!!!!! What a sweetie...and she is smiling!!!!! |
What a cutie!
I am sure Marley will find a wonderful home (is it yours??) |
Please let us know what happens. She is just beautiful. |
She's gorgeous!
Thanks so much for helping her out! |
I understand about failed fostering. Our neurotic and very shy sheltie foster will be staying with us for the remainder of his life. We have fallen in love with this needy little guy. Unfortunately, he has taken the spot we had reserved for a rescue sheepie. We are full up at 3 dogs. Sometimes, things work out differently than originally planned and in a wonderful way. |
DH asked me to wait a little while before putting Marley into rescue. I will be away on business for a couple of days this week, so he will get a chance to see how he manages with 3 Sheepies. So far Marley hasn't exhibited any of the issues the owners mentioned and has been a pleasure.
It should be an interesting week. Marley is just a playful 65 pound pup that loves her toys and anyone she meets. Miss Ellie disapproves of anything that is too joyful and Buffett isn't sure what to do(but I think he likes Marley more each day). But everyone needs to work out the pecking order, whether she stays or moves to a new home. Standby, I'll know on Thursday if DH has gone completely soft or just suffering from playful puppy syndrome. It's a tough call, she is a perfect little sweetie. |
We'll be waiting on the news!!!!
Good Luck and have a safe trip |
Can't wait till the verdict comes in, keep us posted |
She's a cutie - could be a keeper . . . |
So, I just lost my beloved sheepie of 11 years, Vladimir (love ya kiddo =), on the 22nd of July. I have posted a separate topic re: looking for a new sheepie.
Point being, I'm very very interested in adopting Marley, if she is possibly still looking for her new home. If you've decided to keep her, congratulations to the both of you =) And I am in SF, CA. A bit far, but there are things that are important and then there are mere details to be worked out. |
Can we have an update on Miss Marley? She is super cute!
BTW, how on EARTH do you keep your white furniture clean? They are beautiful, WOW! |
What a pretty girl! I am excited to hear the update. . . |
Apologies on the delayed update, I had two trips back to back. The second trip was to Denver, so rather than flying alone, we loaded up the entire flock of sheep and made it a road trip for the family. Three rainy days in a hotel with three Sheepies, we know how to have fun.
Ms Marley is still in residence. The family that wanted her made the decision not to move forward with the adoption. It was a well thought out decision for the current circumstances. I’m sure they will be ready for another deserving pup in a year or so. We have another family interested but they won’t have the opportunity to meet her until the 3rd. Meanwhile, we continue to foster one of the most enjoyable, sweet, smart, and playful little sheepie girls I’ve ever met. Miss Ellie has begun to enjoy her play sessions with Marley, which has cut down on the warning growls in the house. Last night both girls were leaning on each other while watching for Dad to come in the house. Buffett, likes Marley, but as with most everything in Buff’s life, he’s not sure what he should do with her. DH is still in line to fail foster 101 and secretly hopes the right family never materializes, but says he understands if we find a good home (yah, sure). My sympathies on losing your wonderful Vladimir, such a massive hole in the heart is left with their departure. We have another family to speak with about Marley. Standby for updates. Meanwhile, I know Southwest rescue has a couple dogs. jcc9797 wrote: Can we have an update on Miss Marley? She is super cute!
BTW, how on EARTH do you keep your white furniture clean? They are beautiful, WOW! My secret to keeping white furniture in a house of muddy feet sheepies and shedding cats is: washable slip covers. And boy, do those slip covers know their way around the washer! |
I've noticed I no longer pick stray hairs from my clothes...
I just leave them there for the most part. I appreciate your words and I'll keep my eyes on this thread to see what transpires. She -is- gorgeous. mmm... |
I'm a failure! Not something I say often (I'm a recovering type "a"). Or maybe I should say DH has failed......foster 101.
That's right, Ms. Marley has found her furever home with us. He is so committed to having her with us, he agreed to enroll in a training class. Training is more for him than Marley. I've never been a 3 dog household, except for the occassional foster or friends dog overnight. I know if we don't have everyone trained and operating on the same program, home life will be nothing but 180 lbs of out of control fluff. An absolute "furry flurry". We are teetering on the hairly edge now. But on the positive side, if hubby was going to loose his heart to another dog, he couldn't have chosen a better girl. She's a healer (not as in cow dog). Marley calms any dog she meets and arranges a wonderfully mutual play time. She's an old soul and has had some interesting impact on my pack. It will be interesting when a foster opportunity comes. But then, I've already agreed to 3, I don't think an occassional 4th will make much of a difference. Did I say that! Help! All you folks with more than 3, talk sense to me, Quick! |
oh I'm so glad for you! I'm hoping to one day foster, and am hoping for results as "unsuccessful" as your own!!! |
oh i am so glad you flunked she is a keeper!! great hubby you have there he too is a keeper |
Welcome to Failed Fostering
That's how we ended up with 7 dogs at one time And why I may not foster ever again as we really need to think about the future and just how many dogs we can really handle. Hmm, never got as far as slipcovers, I just use sheets, except sheets come in sets, hardly ever as separates any more. I use washable blankets under the sheets since dirt still manages to get through the sheet fabric. Plus is company is coming I just grab the sheets and blankets and voila, there's the upholstery underneath. Instant redecorating. |

She especially loves the wood floor, up against the wall with all fours in the air and snoring. One suggestion to keep your dog off the furniture is to stand the cushions up against the back of the couch or chair. |
Congrats on the new baby....
What a lucky gal! |
I just got #5 and she is a sheepie so I am no help at all congratulations she is beautiful!!! |
We have 7, so I am even less help. |
Lucky Marley!!! |
No comment with 4 here now, Yeah I know something about dog addiction and needing a self help group I swore years ago no more then 2 at a time, Hmmmm must be dementia playing tricks on my memory.
Congrats on failing foster 101 Marley is a doll. My hubby is at training classes with HIS boy, not for the dogs benefit, but to train him too Now we need to work on Grooming lessons for Hubby as well So glad Marley stole your families hearts |

I'm so glad you flunked fostering!! My take of the story of Marley was first she was loved and then dumped because a "real" baby was on the way. I've seen it happen toooooooooooooooooooo many times that when the baby comes the dog goes out the door. JMHO |
Good for you. Three's an excellent number. |
