Ali ........... Ali, Hope you feel better. Push those fluids ! Summer flu can be the worst, glad to hear you will see your Dr soon. Please keep us updated... |
Wow made news here on TV a 5 point something on the scale, no major damage or injuries thank goodness.
Any after shocks? I think your last big major one was in the 1960's is that correct? That caused 60 deaths and a lot of damage. Boy between earth shakes in some parts of the country, wildfires, hurricanes elsewhere and those living in what they call Tornado Alley boy of boy what a diverse continent as far as Mother nature is concerned. So glad to hear no major injuries with the quake. Ali get well soon |
i remember it was 1972 or 71?? when the BIG quate hit L.A. I'll date myself by saying i was in high school....... don't know why i remember it so.... i was in Albuquerque going to school........
My ex husband and i honeymooned in San Diego....(yeah i know) and our first night there, i heard a 'BOOM' like a sonic boom, it woke me right up, and then the room started shaking......... he didn't believe me....... i was screaming to get in a doorway or something! lol. Then it came on the news......... Somebody was telling me that wasn't going to work! hahaha auhhhhhhhhhhh going to let dogs out, then in and into their respective crates tonight (Caly is in season still). The other part most of you don't know, is on top of all the other stress and this going on, Norm called yesterday (I think cant remember now) and said he is out of a job come Sept.1 so we have 30 days for him to find SOMETHING........ be it in Iraq, Afghanastan, Dubai or whereever........ or there will be a 18 wheeler backed up to this house and i will be out of it..... isn't life grand........ |
Hoping everyone is safe |
Luckily I didn't feel it. I was less than 10 miles from there and was in my car. If I had felt it, I am sure I would have freaked out.
Billy felt it here at our house. He was in bed, home sick today. He said he woke up, looked around and went back to bed. But he's a native and he's been through some big ones. Nothing phases him. My sister works in Aliso Viejo about 15 miles west of the quake and pictures were falling off the wall, stuff on the floor. She said she got home to find a mess. Which is nothing unusual... but this time the mess included pictures and stuff that fell off a the shelves. We had a 5.8 here in the Desert about 3 1/2 yrs ago. It was my first "real" one and I totally freaked out. Billy was in the car at the time that quake struck with Hayley and had no clue that anything happened. I wasn't sure where they were and the cell phone service and phone lines went down. When I finally got a hold of him about 15 minutes later, he couldn't believe how badly I freaked out about a small quake. Hello!!! I'm from the East Coast. I don't have much experience and it's scary to me. We did have a bit of damage with that one. A crack in our patio. |
last one, honestly i'm going back to bed..........
guess i have been through 2. I was working L&D at Camp Pendleton and was in one of the small labor rooms with a woman. We heard this noise and some vibrations, and i told her it was probably just the supply cart going down the hall, lol. I got out the the main desk and they were all a twitter....... and there was acrack up on the 5th floor........... you guys take care out there. Wendy and Elisa wish i cold say just move it all here to this house,........... but who knows if 'this house' will be ours in 2 months or so........ Ali |
It was my first time experiencing earth quake at this level today since I moved here from the other side of the world six years ago. All other smaller scale ones were just a little bit of vibration felt under my feet. This time, I just happened to have put my lunch into the microwave in my office to heat up right when it started. It lasted about 5 seconds or so. Everything was shaking but nothing fell off. The whole time I was only worrying whether I should stop the microwave and took my lunch out or I could just leave it in there. All I care about was my lunch
My boss came out of his office saying "Earth quake!" I walked off with my lunch and said" I told you no rough-housing in the house!!" Ali, good luck with everything and feel better soon! |
Hope everyone is ok! Maybe not one for the record books, thank God, but....... |
Elissa and Wendy I'm glad to hear you are ok. Ali sorry to hear you have the flu and your other troubles...I hope everything clears up soon for you. |
My wedding happened in Malibu two days before the quake happened (and during our flight to Cabo San Lucas/La Paz for our honeymoon) and we just found out there was a quake in La Paz today! I just came back to Rochester last night. Talk about timing!! |
Though they did cover it over the news here, I saw it happen while watching Big Brother. They showed them all freaked out and going outside to touch the ground. No tv junkie here. |
Hey, I thought you were moving? :D:D |
They're here right now. I can't do much unless kiddos are sleeping so I'm just hangin' here and there. I'm so grumpy. We had a farewell party last night after I had only had 1.5 hrs of sleep to get ready for day 1 of packers combined with the 3 hrs I got last night [w/two feedings in that 3 hrs] so this is my "take a breather" place. <deep breath>
I ALWAYS said I love moving. No more. Thank Goodness we're through. Seriously. |
