Asia and I rescued a Turtle

Yesterday morning was Lawn Service day. So Asia and I where out on poop patrol in the yard. (we do this everyday, but earlier on Lawn Service Day). Anyway, as we are walking along patrolling Asia started barking at something up near the white picket fence. So, of course I tell her to "no bark"! I walk over to investigate what has her attention and at first I didn't see anything. Then I noticed this turtle, playing dead, at the fence. It's shell was at least 6 inches in circumference. So I told Asia we had to save Tommy the Turtle. Asia and I went in the house and got a box. We brought it over to Tommy the Turtle and he had his head sticking out by then. I think he was looking to see if we had gone. Anyway, I picked him up and gently set him into the box. I have to add, I have never picked up a turtle before and it kinda grossed me out. Anyway, I took him out of the fence and down near the lake, and let him out of the box. I don't know if he was a "water" loving turtle or not, but I thought with the Lawn Service coming through, they don't ever cut down near the beach area, he would be safe. There was plenty of vegetation for him to eat also. I haven't figured out how Tommy got into the fence since the white picket goes all the way down to the dirt.

Anyway, we are happy to have saved Tommy! Of course Violet/China stayed in the house where it was nice and cool.

Good job Helen and Asia!

Not a lot of people would have done that. I used to live near a lake and during "mating" season we had lots of turtles crossing the road. I used to stop and help them across.

Tommy says THANKS and so do I.

That was nice of you! We used to do that all the time when mom and I went walking when we lived in maryland. One of the few things I didn't mind picking up as a child. :lol:

or maybe he dug under the fence in that nice florida sand?

lol....yup keep those turtles away from moving vehicles....although duct tape DOES work nicely..... :roll:

Actually Tommy spent two weeks making his way from the bank to over the fence for his date with Polly the Turtle. Now Tommy has to do it all over again. Just hope that this time, Polly is 2 weeks late for the date again :lol:

Do you know what kind of turtle he was? I like turtles.

I always stop and move them if I see them in the road.

I had one inside the fence last summer and like you, could not for the life of me figure out how he got in there. He was a pretty big guy! The wigglebums didn't know what to make of him, but they did alert me to the intruder's presence. :lol:

No Tammy. I really don't know what type of turtle Tommy is. The good news is I think he did miss the Lawn Service. I was a little concerned when I saw the Lawn Service had cut a little closer to the beach then usual.

Yes, Asia was protecting our home from the big bad Turtle....
