However, both the SP and the Sheltie are teenagers, 15 months and 12 months ,so we are having some behavioral challenges .The sheltie has improved a lot but is still a barker . Sound sensitivity as in barking especially at voices and other dogs barking. The sheltie gets the other 2 going and although they do respond to the quiet command , 3 barking dogs is noisy . Even after having ++exercise all day . It's pretty crowded in the campgrounds so they need to be quiet at night when we are in the tent trailer. We have a citronella collar we use for the sheltie sometimes to curb his barking. It works great as he doesn't like the spray . My husband wants to get 2 more for the other dogs to wear at night . What do you think ? I know this isn't a substitute for training but do you think it would be okay for a 10 day camping trip ? I don't want to leave them with a sitter as half the fun is having them with us. Also, it's very expensive to board them . And I'm convinced the sheltie would love the beach just like our poodles do. |

I would take them.
I just camped 3 nights for a dog show with Chewie and basset Simon. Daughter LeAnne's family camped too with her 2 OES. Neither of hers had ever been camping. And baby Will was with - 3.5 months old. All did great and we were tenting also!!! There were lots of dogs camping that weekend at our campgrounds, and all of them were quiet at night. I was amazed. |
Thanks. I think I really needed reassurance this week . I'm waiting for some thyroid testing results on our rescue sheltie, Jamie, and I feel anxious . He started to blow his coat about a month ago and in the last while he has lost an enormous amount of top coat . Hopefully, it's thyroid and we can put him on meds and take him to the beautiful beaches of Oregon to recuperate. |
We took Pepsi when he was @ a year old tent camping near the Grand Canyon. It was me, hubby, my son and my daughter who was only 6 months old at the time. It must have been elk rutting season because they were making loud calling noises all night. I didn't sleep a wink, but Pepsi slept like a baby. He was perfect the entire time we spent there!!
Except when we were packing up the car to leave the campground. I think he thought we were going to leave him so he chewed off his leash. But he just sat there until I went and got him and picked up the leash and saw it wasn't attached. Luckily I had a spare leash in the car. |
