I've had some good success on greasy stains by presoaking them in Sunlight dish washing liquid (the lemon one). I've found it cuts grease really well, and doesn't seem to damage the fabric. You might want to try that. |
I've had good luck with Era. Just presoak, then toss in the
wash using Era. So far, I have been able to get out most stains with it. |
So, say the butter wasn't on your pants but all over your carpet. What would you do then? (*note to self: do not eat artichoke with a bowl of melted butter on a carpeted surface.) |

Yeh my mum will use washing up liquid, she just puts it on the stain neat, give a little gentle rub then straight into the wash machine, always worked, I use it for ground in dirt on my little boys clothes to |
Try Shout Advanced, follow the directions and wash in hot water. I was amazed at the old set in stains it got out. I can now wear stuff that was ruined. My mom (86) is always wearing what ever she has for a meal and I can get most food stains out, mustard, curry, tomato sauce. The one I have trouble with is ground in normal dirt from the dogs... that is the toughest stain for me. Grease is a snap with Shout Advanced. Its a blue bottle and I have found not all stores carry it.
I hope it works for you as well as it has for me. L |
Try Lestoil. As far as I'm concerned it is absolutely the best for getting out any type of grease or oil based stain. Test a little bit on a hidden hem and if it is colorfast just rub some on the spot and wash as normal. If it is a really difficult stain you can soak it for a bit and then wash it. Another old trick is to rub either talcum or corn starch on the grease (like butter) stain and let it sit overnight. This may take several trys to fully get rid of the stain, but it also works. Good luck!

Keep some cornstarch handy at work and rub into greasy stains when they happen. Helps absorb the oil. Later you can use all the fancy pretreaters. |
I would say Dawn dishsoap!!!!LOL
OK, besides the name thing, it is supposed to be a great degreaser for stuff like that. They use it on the waterfowl all greased up in oil spills in the ocean, so it must work well. |
And the winner is....Dawn the dish soap (and Chewie's mum, of course). I rubbed the soap right into the stain, soaked it in the bathtub, then washed in the machine. No more spots! |
Good to hear! |
That is great.
Dawn comes through again!! |
LandsEnd, the clothing company, recommends Dawn for grease spots too.
Those Tide booboo pens you carry in your purse aren't good on grease. |
I threw away the Tide pen a few months ago. Totally worthless on any spot. |
hmm wonder if Dawn (the dishsoap ) works on pizza grease you get on your shirt and wash and dry and it doesn't come out (twice ) |

Kathie i LOVE lestoil....they dont sell it out west here....but my mom swore by it for everything..... i have bought it on trips back to michigan though...lol |
I'm late seeing this thread, Paula, so I'm glad you got your stain out. Dawn was going to be my recommendation, too, as I read through this thread. I'm glad it worked for you.
I've never heard of Lestoil....must be a regional thing. |
Again, I recommend Shout Advanced. This stuff really works on set in grease stains. I have salvaged many an item from the GoodWill by using this on my set in stains. Follow the directions on the bottle and you will be really happy with the results..

I haven't thought about Lestoil in years. I'll have to look and see if I can find it. Mom used it for every stain imaginable. |
