THANKS!!!! |

Hey Wendy!!!
I was at the thrift store today and found an old Weight Watchers Cookbook. It is copyright dated 1977. No mention of points in it! Seeing it was half price night, I bought it - for $1. It is called Weight Watchers, International Cooking. If I had your address, I would send it to you......... |
wish you would have said something while you were here! There are 14 boxes of cookbooks downstairs and a bunch of them are ALL the old WW cookbooks.............
Will see what i can find. Ali |
Thanks guys. Teresa sent me an old pasta cookbook...but it doesn't have "the plan" in it. I need to know how many exchanges per day/week and what constitutes an exchange. For example: one bread exchange was a 40 cal bread slice...or light bread. 1 oz of protein is 1 exchange, etc.
If anyone has that in their cookbook...all I need it the pages that it is on...maybe a scan. I know it works for me...wish I had kept all the old books...I throw everything away. My husband saves "everything"!!! |
your really going o make me go to the basement of no return and look thru BOXES and BOXES now................
|
Wendy, is it something like this:
Quote: the exchanges are as follows(1994)
milk-2 ..fat-2/3 fruit-2 veggies-3(min) protein4/6 oz. bread-4/6 water-8 personal selections ,up to21(not including fats) optional calories up to 700 eggs/organ meats up to 4 per week meats and cheese up to 16 I'll keep looking......... |
Wendy, look at this site. It is an exchange diet and if you read you'll note WW and Richard Simmons' diets were very similar if not the same:

Over the weekend, I'll check my old stash of WW cookbooks too. I know exactly what you are talking about. But I think you really should give the Flex Plan (points) a try. |
I have been in Weight Watchers on and off for 20 years...I have tried all plans. My daughter and I have been doing it together for 4 years. I can't afford the meetings or online fees right now...too much on credit cards.
The flex plans doesn't keep you on a well balanced diet. I have had limited success on the flex plan, but the portions/old plan I lost over 20lbs...was doing great, then they changed the plan on me. I just want to try the old limits again and see if it works for us...my whole family is a bit "fluffy". Nigel is the only slim one in the house. If I remember right...Deb is a leader |
Guilty as charged! |
Hi,
I found several old Weight Watcher books advertised on Ebay. They usually don't cost much. |
wendy plan on going thru all my boxes when you are here!!!! i know i have over 30 boxes in the basement of cookbooks alond............. |

You are such a leader Deb...at this point, we can't afford to pay for the meetings on online plan...so we are just using the books we have.
Maybe later when things get better. I am going to the gym 5-6 days a week however. That was the only thing we didn't cancel...and Netflix. |

I've lost 11 pounds since December 29th on the Momentum plan and I was one who thought only the old plan with exchanges worked. Momentum DOES work--follow the healthy eating habits and it will be a well-balanced diet. And stick to your points!!!! It ain't easy all the time, but it does work.
And Deborah is my unofficial leader. She is wonderful! |

I am still doing the points plan is that the same as the new one? I have to get back to my meetings. |
I loved the old method too! Fortunately, I found the old information. For Women:
Fruit - 60 calories (small apple or orange, 1/2 banana or grapefruit, 1C strawberries, 1/2 C juice) Veggies - 2 minimum per day - no limit (corn & peas considered as bread) Milk: 90 calories 1 C skim Fat: 40 calories 1 tsp butter or margarine or olive oil or mayonnaise, 1 1/2 tsp salad dressing. Bread: 80 calories 1 slice, 3/4 ounce of cold cereal, 1/2 C cooked hot cereal (corn & peas 1/2 cup) Proteins: 70 calories, 1 ounce of beef, chicken, fish, turkey, sausage - Restrictions: up to 4 eggs a week, up to 4 ounces hard or semi-soft cheese & 4 ounces of liver a week. Week One - Fruits 3, Vegetables always 2 min, Milk 2, Bread 2, Fats 3, Protein 6, Optional Calories 150 Week Two - Proteins increase to 7, Optional Calories 200 Week 3 Up to 8 proteins and 3 breads, Optional Calories 250 Week 4 Optional Calories 550. Best results if you stick to eating all the required foods and exercise self control and stay away from white flour & sugar products. Best nutrition if eat raw veggies. Men and Youth: Daily add 2 proteins, 2 breads, 1 Fat, 1 to 2 fruit exchanges. Youths only: Daily add 1 milk exchange! I hope this helps any one that likes the old plan like I do. I pray that we are all successful! |
Hi everyone, I'm really new to this whole forum thing, even though I'm in my 20s haha. My mom and I have been preparing to go back on the old Weight Watchers plan... before the Points System. My mom had the most success in the early 90s. Well today she went to the cupboard to pull out her old little quick-reference pamphlet with the food exchanges and it was gone! We've torn the whole house apart looking for it and can't seem to find it anywhere.. I started looking on ebay, amazon.. only to desperately try googling, and came across y'all's posts. The Richard Simmons link was helpful, same with all the stuff y'all quoted, etc... except my mom seriously wants the WW book! If anyone has it, would it be possible at all to scan it and email it to me or send me a link where I can buy it?? Gosh, we would be soooo grateful. It's the little pamphlet book with the cut pages that stagger so you can quick-reference different food groups... know which one I'm talking about? It's pretty much the "main" book necessary once you have the other basics understood. Please help! My mom and I would so appreciate it! Thanks all... |

I found the booklet!! LOL can't believe it. Thank you St. Anthony! Wish you guys all the best! |
Can you scan it and pm me the info...or post it here? |
I would love to have a copy of the old Weight Watcher book, it was alot easier to follow. |
I too am desperately looking for the old Weight Watchers plans/books B4 points. Anyone know where I could find them? How about copies of one that someone might not want to give up? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Donna |
http://www.dwlz.com/WWinfo/old1972ww.html This is a pretty good summary of the old plan. I realize that it's easier because it is so limiting. Back then there were few diet foods/replacement foods. You can also find TONS of old WW cookbooks on eBay and if you read the intros carefully, you can figure out the old plan. Like for women, it's 3 fruits and 2 veggies a day. 4 ounces of protein, 3 servings of bread (one slice is a serving), 2 tsps. of diet butter or mayo, 2 8 ounce glasses of milk. I think the bottom line is watch portions and cut out junk food. |
If you want the 'old program', the one before points then go to your local library, I found the ww complete program binder which has the program and recipes. |
I am looking for the Red Program Booklet I received when I first join WW. I believe it was in the 80's. Before the point system. I had so much success with that plan. I had loss a total of 55 pounds. Have not been able to find that book. |
