I guess I am looking for a plan of attach on dealing with Bella, the heat and short hair. Walking at night and lots of water. She has taken over one of the vents from the air condishioner. |

Excellent! Bella will be more comfortable. In summer,
our humidity makes matts multiply. It can be a challenge that even with consistent brushing the matts can win. You are right to schedule walks for at night, provide lots of water and air conditioning. And Bogart says she might enjoy Animal Planet on the tv , its his favorite channel. Her coat will grow back in no time too! |
Yup, matts can get out of hand quickly.
She will be so much MORE comfortable in th3heat with short hair. There is a belief, by some, that the long hair insulates them from the heat which is untrue. It is possible to keep a fll coat and keep them comfortable but it so much easier with short hair. We clip every summer. |
My guys have short coats and they get the runs periodically from the heat. I can't afford my a/c so we use a swamp cooler. It is fine...except for when it is humid...like now. I mist the dogs and keep them inside all day...except for quick potty trips. I do think it is going to be bathtime today...lol |
my boy is short (actully long for him I do need to order a blade) and its great. an inch or two and never any mats and I only brush him every couple of weeks. My girl is in full coat - gets brushed hours a week (almonst every day) and I always find a new mat!!
Morgan loves to swim (as we recently found out) and its great exercise with a short coat its great. I hose him down after he finishes and when his post swim nap is over he is good to go. Marley on the other hand swam yesterday (she hated it btw) and needed a full bath and brush out afterwards. SHe looks lovely and fluffy but for the summer a wash and wear sheepie is the way to go if you ask me! |
