The store obviously knows nothing about the breed. They got nothing right on what they told me about OES's. I have some questions that you all will probably feel are basic, but they are new to me. Bailey is now about two, 62 pounds, and a peaceful temperment. She went through complete testing by our vet as soon as we got her (vet was concerned with where I got Bailey). Her shots have been up to date, and she has been treated for all parasites. The vet said I lucked out and she has no major problems. However, we have just noticed she has an extra (ninth) nipple. I was wondering if that is a rare or common variation and if it will have any impact on her life as a whole. Is there any other things I should check for like this nipple? Bailey is a loved and important part of our family, so I am not tying this to her desirability. I have no intentions of breeding or showing her. I am just trying to stay on top of things I should be aware of to provide for her the best and longest healthy life possible. I have a sixteen year old toy poodle, who is a celebrity in our vets office. Dave |

An extra nipple in a human means nothing, so you've got to think it would be the same for a dog. |
Most people think female dogs should only have 8, 4 on each side. Not normally so, my two previous bitches had 10 all up and my Brie is lopsided with 9. So no your OES is not unusual with the odd number of nips. Won't affect her health at all being lopsided like my girl
Just make sure she is on a premium diet as this breed grows rapidly and needs good nutrition to help them through the rapid growth period. Also no over-exercising her till she has finished the rapid growth spurts. |
Where is Darcy in this thread?
