Alexi went through puppy socialization, obedience, and agility training. He gave 100% in everything in his life. The only reward he wanted was to be loved and to return love!!! He was active, happy, and everyone (including the vet)thought he was healthy - up until 8 weeks before his death. Then, one night Alexi started drooling, this continued for a long time. He seemed agitated and restless (this was a real laid-back dog and never appeared to let anything upset him). I gave him water, comforted him, stroked him, and laid down with him. A few hours later he had a seizure. He had 3 more seizures that night by the time he got to the vet's. Blood work, more blood work, meds, more meds. 8 seizures a day, lasting up to 45 minutes each, spontaneous bleeding, blindness, paralysis, Alexi crying and depressed and daily trips to the vet. Status epilepsy (congenital hereditary epilepsy) that could not be controlled, and was continuosly clonic-tonic (seizure activity). He was suffering too much so I decided to end my love's pain, staying with my sweetums throughout the process. He was cremated, and his ashes remain with me. On the anniversary of his death, I bring him flowers and light a candle. He is always in my heart and in my thoghts. Miska, my border collie sometimes sits near Alexi's ashes and cries. Alexi has shown us love, and his legacy is raising a beautiful, gentle, well-mannered border collie who helped me care for Alexi during the last 8 weeks. |
