How do you guys n gals mark the occasion? |
|
We bring treats for the dogs and humans to my dog classes.
Everyone goes home happy! |
My guys all get to go to the Dairy Queen for their own ice cream cone. Vanilla, of course. |
We don't. Since all are rescues, we really don't know ages or dates. We have the "Gotcha" date but have to look it up each time someone asks, "How old is X?" |
Funny you should bring this up now Mark because Harry's 3rd birthday is Sunday. I have celebrated all of my sheepie's birthdays doing the things they liked best. I would take Muffy (childhood OES) to get an ice cream cone every year on her birthday. Mopsy grew up with our sons and so we celebrated her birthday too. She loved the Happy Birthday song and was really happy when the birthday song was for her! Harry likes to play more than anything hence he gets a party where his doggie friends come over to play. My dog's always get presents on their birthday and they like that part too.
Here is a picture from Mopsy's 7th birthday: Here is a picture from Harry's 2nd birthday - look at his big smile: I will post pictures from this year's party and birthday after the weekend. I guess you figured out that my dogs are a little spoiled. |
Oh I love it!!! I was wondering what to do for Baloo's first birthday (end of this month).
There is a fancy doggie bakery in town and I was going to see about getting him and his friends some treats-- but he really loves it when I get him a vanilla cone from our local ice cream place..... HMMMM... what to do-what to do- |
My friends are all making fun of me; Tonks and Luna are my first pets where I knew thier birthdays. All 3 of my cats are rescues. From the day I got my two girls, everyone has been joking about puppy birthday parties.... but I sort of want to do it! I'm glad other folks do this as well.
My girls and I all have birthdays in the same week: October 15th, 18th, and 19th. So I think I can disguise their birthday as my own, and just make sure all the goodies are also doggie edible! |
panda gets a few toys and some extra goodies in her dinner bowl....she loves unwrapping presents!! |
We do something special every year. Two years ago, we did parties with cupcakes, friends, hats & presents.
Last year, we went to the beach over Genevieve's birthday so she got presents and a trip to her favorite burger joint for dinner. Beaureguard got a trip to the mountains for his birthday, presents and a his favorite burger joint for dinner, too. Who knows what we'll do this year. But one thing is for sure, we like to celebrate! |
Good question! Ru is 1 soon too. I think just a week or so before Archie? Maybe we should have a party it's a pity we don't live a bit closer! I have no idea what to do, I think a nice long walk and maybe a real bone as he doesn't get them often. He will have prezzies too of course. |
Thanks for this post. We're celebrating Bogie's b'day a little late since his human sister was away at camp for the actual date. I think we'll take a trip to PetSmart and sniff around. They sent us a b'day coupon which we MUST use. Then a trip to the water ice stand for a cool treat.
PS loved the cupcakes in Beauregard's Mom's post!!! |
Ooooh I love the plan to go to a doggie store with upright sibling in tow!
The upright can be told in advance that we want to "find out" what the pupper wants for his birthday, and she can watch him as he sniffs around the store. All the while you can whisper to her "Do you think that is what he wants?" Then you can hide buying the present and have her give it to him later all wrapped up! Although in this case she may be too old for this, I see it as a great chance to teach "giving/getting a hint" and a bunch of other stuff to younger children. Plus he'll be sniffing so many things you can ask if he want just about anything you want to buy for him! Cool! |
I was at a doggie birthday party last night and the birthday girl received a 2 layer cake made of 2 giant hamburgers (10 inch diameter) with peanut butter as frosting and cheez whiz for additional decoration. It was amazing! She's an old dog who spent most of the party greeting guests lying down but she jumped up and stomped around joyfully in anticipation of her cake. It was adorable to see her chomp into it. After the initial bite (sort of like the blowing out the candle moment), the cake was shared by her doggie friends. It was all human grade ingredients, but I didn't see any 2-leggeds dig in. |
I am still at a bit of a loss what to do.
Maybe I'll lay off with the matt rake for a day! My wife thinks I am nuts The only trouble with differing foods, is what will the side effects be? He seems really happy with his dry food and his biscuits or dry fish as treats but if I introduce anything creative - could I regret the END results so to speak! Maybe take him somewhere new? |
Definitely!! The birthday surprise or treat doesn't have to be food. Particularly if you have a kid with a sensitive tummy, you don't want to end the fun day with an upset stomach.
Plan a fun trip to his favorite dog park or hike a new trail, just spend time with him and maybe get him a cool new toy. He'll enjoy it and you'll know you made his birthday special. |
Obe is one with a sensitive stomach so he doesn't ever get a big change in his diet. Although last year I did find treats from the doggie bakery in town made from his two favorite human foods, yogurt and carrots. This year for his b-day, which is in 4 days, I will get another one of those treats, some presents and he can go chase the ducks in the creek which he loves to do. Then that evening we can go to the lake house for free music on the lawn and he can show off and let everyone know it's his Day. |
Oh oh somewhere new!! How close are you to the nearest dog friendly beach? Sometimes you can take them on after 6, it would be cooler then too. A Google search would probably tell you. In fact, I think that's what we'll do for Ru |
