Sorry, I'm not a big fan of invisable fences. YES it will hurt her. My neighbors had one with a Gordon Setter and an English Setter. It was very sad to watch. The dogs would run through to get to something outside the yard, the excitment of the chase over riding the pain of the shock. Then, they would get shocked repeatedly as they tried to get back into the yard.
Like the electric training collar, in order to be effective the shock has to be at a level high enough to cause pain. Alot of people use them but you need to accept the fact that you are using a painful stimulus for training. As for the poopng (or not as the case may be) three days is a bit long...... the Vet can feel and listen to her belly and tell if she is obstructed. |
Okay, so we went to the vet because Suzi made a painful cry when I touched her ear and then 3 days and hadn't pooped...she did have an ear infection and vet said not uncommon for her not going with everything happening to her. It just took a vet trip...as soon as we got home the first thing she did was go!!!! Yeah!!!! Just hope it won't take a trip in the car everytime I am going to walk her on the leash for a couple of weeks until she gets more comfortable with everything before trying to do more training with the fence. It's too much too soon. Rosie hears the beep and never breaks through no matter what but I had Rosie almost 7 years before training her on this fence. Sure do miss my white picket fence in Charleston right now though. Of course Susie could have cleared it probably..just no way we can put up a fence on over an acre lot built mostly of mountain rock. The positive is once Suzie learns it she will have a big meadow to romp around in whereas my Charleston yard was quite small with little room to romp. I think once Suzi is comfortable and secure she'll stay pretty close to me as she is the most velcro dog I have ever encountered. Already in love with her! Quote: Even Rosie was happy to see her come home after the vet...I just know with time they will be side by side...after a few days they seem to be doing pretty good. |
How long has Suzi been using the collar/fence?
I wonder if she just needs more time to learn her boundry? I know it took a few weeks with Tucker before we let him out to try it all on his own. Some dogs just take longer than others. (Mine does not hurt my dogs, and I do understand how it works.) Or maybe it just all that's been going on for her and she was distracted? Shellie |
It takes at least 2-3 weeks to train a dog to learn the Invisible Fence with flags and all so she can learn her boundaries. If your fence is from the Canine Fence/Invisible Fence people, they are willing to re-train you to train your dog. Do you have your original training video/dvd that you received??
She cannot learn the boundaries on her own with just a beeping collar. You must spend the time and train her properly as you were originally instructed. |
we spent two weeks training Morgan and Marley on the fence. Morgan has never gone through it and Marley did once. I also -experienced - the shock. it is unpleasant but I wouldn't put it in the pain category. it did give me a headache though. |
