Here's what I didn't tell you: I got called for an interview for Monday at 10 am. I said I was really sorry but I worked teaching ESL and couldn't make it during that time. The receptionist said the principal was interviewing staff but she'd get back to me regarding changing times. I prayed I didn't mess it up for myself. I know the principal is taking extra time to interview for this position during her summer vacation. Receptionist calls back and says how about tomorrow at 12:30? I finish teaching at 12 and would rush to the interview. Luckily I mentioned I would leave asap but was a bit concerned about being late in case there was traffic. Luckily I mentioned it. whew! I realized I can't find my resume and will not be able to print one off at home as my printer is no longer working. I stay up in the wee hours of the night - searching for all my certificates and resume in numerous closets. Urg! Murphy's Law as I packed up all my papers only 3 wks ago (before I even heard of the job). The documentation is in one of several boxes. I am dead the next morning as I rush to work and then will have to rush to interview. Worse I had stained some wood and there was a hole in the glove which I hadn't noticed. One hand is stained a dark brown. I soaked in the tub forever and it won't come off. I can't use bleach as I have numerous cuts on my hands from all my renos. I hope nobody notices. The kids all ask me why I have a brown hand. Egads! I rush to the interview after completing my work and noooooooo road work..construction and traffic is at a crawl on the highway. I arrive 20 mins late for the interview. I profusely apologize and think I've really blown it as this I know is numero uno on the don't do list. The principal apologizes for her appearance as she just had medical treatment on her lips (pre cancerous) and I put her at ease. I also mention my brown hand and we both broke out in laughter. This set the tone for the interview as I was put at ease. Hope against hope I pray that I get the job and I did. 20 mins late, brown hand and a crumpled resume. Your good wishes and thoughts pulled me through. Thanks! Marianne |

Congrats......Kathy |
Thanks!
I also neglected to mention that I realize with horror the shirt I'm wearing is covered with dog hair. Thankfully, I find a jacket in the car. Although we're in the middle of a heat wave I wear the jacket but prayed I didn't seem weird for wearing it in scorching weather. No wonder my good friends always ask : How I made it this far in life..ha ha! Marianne |
You make me laugh
Congratulations Marianne, with the brown hand, dog hair and running late you still got it girl. WOO HOO WAY TO GO MAZZA. |

Congrats!!! When something is meant to be...it is meant to be! Having spent 30 years in education and seeing what a loving, kind, energtic person you are...I am so happy you will be working with kids that need you!!! The principal and students are the lucky ones...they get you! |
Congrats!!!! What a great story! You know this is will just have to be the job of a lifetime!!! I remember years ago, there was a story on the Dick Van Dyke show, where Rob Petry was getting an award (I think) from the NAACP (what they called some black organization in the 60's) and somehow he and Laura had accidently dyed they hands black. That's what your story reminded me of! Well once again...CONGRATS! |
and all that is what makes you YOU and a wonderful caring you it is, so thanks for being YOU |
