I have 2 healthy havanese dogs (male=15 pounds, female(Blind)= 11 pounds) They are brother/sister and both are fixed. I got papers of sale, & 2008 vacination, but loss the papers saying they were fixed. But there a scare where the female was fixed, male small scar and no testy. The question.. All I need is a vets certificate saying they are healthy and they are fixed, It that correct? Thank You |

Yes, I believe a health certificate from your vet is all you need. Here's more info:

Intact show dogs head back and forth across that border all the time. You won't be asked to prove whether they are spayed/neutered or not, it's the health cert/UTD rabies vaccination that's significant, not their reproductive status.

Hi,
Congrats on your new dogs! I've brought in 2 dogs and 1 cat over the boarder into Canada. One of the dogs came from the US, the other from Hong Kong. The cat was also from the US. The vet certificate of good health must be dated within 3 days, and all innoculations and RABIES current - this is a must to allow entry. They won't even ask about spay/neuter as it's not considered. They will also ask you for papers regarding bill of sale or may question you a bit more if they are rescues as two of mine were and thus no fees exhanged. Hope that helps! PS If you are crossing via vehicle - you must also have a passport - don't forget as drivers license only are no longer allowed to travel back and forth from US - Canada. Best wishes Marianne |

You need a driver's license and another form of ID - we used birth certificates this summer. For more info: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_t ... _1082.html |
I now remember they gave a bit of a reprieve on documentation regarding crossing over the boarder. You are right DL is still accepted if one has birth certificate as well, but not just DL solely.
In my stupidness, I had forgotten this in Nov when I crossed the boarder - three hour lineup as it was Rememberance Day (you guys have Memorial Day) so it was due to the holiday. I was picking up One Eyed Mickey and when I reached the booth the woman denied me entry as I only had DL for indentification and no birth certificate. Gasp! She said they could send me inside to process and that would take another 2-3 hours wait..NO! Anyhow my poor dejected face must have shown my anquish as she gave me a break (after telling me what I should have had) and let me through. (I was meeting Mickey's savior part way as she also made the trip part way from Oregon). I had been so worried about obtaining proper documentation for kitty - that I neglected to see what I needed. |
