Maybe for the next 10 days or so before you go, put an old jumper or something in your bed and sleep with it so it 'smells' like you and let him take that to his 'holiday home' so he has something to snuggle with that smells like you. I would also recommend taking his familiar toys and especially his feeding dishes as they often don't like to eat out of 'strange' ones.
Have a good trip! |
If he's anything like Tucker, you'll need to find something to minimize YOUR stress, not his! I thought Tucker would find it hard to leave me, but he always just goes off playing and I'm the one left sad at the door!! |

We had to go on a 6 day long trip when our girls were only 6 months old. What was recommended was leaving them at the kennel we chose for an over-night stay, before our trip. That way, they could spend the night, and Mommy & Daddy would pick them up the next day. They won't think they are being abandoned; they would know that we would come back for them. This was important to us, as we travel anywhere from 4 - 7 days each month for business.
Why not try leaving your pup first for a few hours with your relative; and then pick them up. Then maybe for a full day, and pick them up in the evening. And lastly, let them stay overnight, and then go get your pup in the morning. They might begin to understand that the stays are temporary, and that you will always come back for them. Good luck! |
