Bark control devices - not collars- positive results

I heard from a sheltie breeder I know that these devices are being discussed a lot particularly the Birdhouse device.

Petsafe Outdoor Pet Dog Stop Bark Control Birdhouse ( Battery Operated )

Viatek Bark Stop, Barking Dogs, Bark Free Ultrasonic ( plug- in )

Neither are collars. They are negative reinforcement bark detection ultrasonic deterrent. Apparently, if you are close enough to neighbours ( 50 feet ) it will also train your neighbours dog to be quiet.

When the dog barks they emit a high pitched ultrasonic noise only the dog can hear no bark = no annoying noise

She is going to buy it from Ebay and try it . I'll keep you posted as she has 8 shelties , a great Pyr and a Pom all of whom bark excessively.

Wouldn't/couldn't your dog be punished for another's barking?

Or Vice Versa?
Yes Ron, I agree that the negative consequence is your dog could be punished. This is the downside to these types of devices . They are not a substitute for training however some breeds are barkers and all the training in the world will not quiet them.

Perhaps devices like these will enable some people to keep dogs that would otherwise be given up because of nuisance barking. Used under the right circumstances ( when you have no other options ) I think these devices are a realistic alternative to having to rehome your dog .

My friend, the sheltie breeder, lives on a large property in the country and has no immediate neighbours so I am keenly interested to hear how it works for her dogs. She is testing it . There is a lot of discussion about it within her Shetland Sheepdog network.

The sheltie we are currently fostering is a barker. When he first came he was so frightened that he barked almost continuously the first 2 months . We were fortunate that the house next door was being reno'd and was empty. Deafening barking , even our poodles were getting really fed up. However, we have been working with him , as has our doggie daycare and he has improved a lot after almost 5 months. He is very bonded to our Standard Poodle as they are 15 months and 11 months and he is starting to act more like a poodle than a sheltie somedays. He can play and excitement bark a few times and be quiet when asked ! It has taken a team of us to get him to this point.
He's still very needy but his sweet personality and puppyness are finally shining through . As he is less afraid of the world and us he barks less. But we are vigilant. I would not use an ultrasonic device on him . He is a fear barker who needs long term love and gentleness . But his barking and his numerous other issues ( afraid to enter or exit doorways, afraid of stairs, afraid of anything black, children , strangers , dogs the list is endless ) made him almost unadoptable. And he is only just turning a year old . So we have lots of time to work on his barking and other stuff.
But not all dogs are so lucky so if it keeps a dog in a home I say okay.
We use the Viatec one, we also got it from ebay. Our OES pup used to bark every day at 4am because he knew my dad would get up and give him attention  Now he has stopped barking at night, actually from the first night of use. We still have it switched on every night and sleep peacefully until a much more reasonable 'up time'. We have no other dogs though, and are careful to switch it off as soon as we get downstairs as other noises can set it off also.
I was just worried about and hinting at, kind of clumsily, what bgirl was saying about other noises (like OTHER dogs barking) setting off the collar by accident.

My sister had two small dogs - one was a barker and she put a bark collar on her. the other one learned to bark and run. sort of like  the mean sister
