Welcome to the forum. You will find that oes.org is a place where we hang out purely for the love of sheepies.
Your post is very brief, so I wondered if you had ever had a sheepdog before. If so, then you certainly know what you are in for in terms of size, temperament, health and grooming issues, but if not, I encourage you to look through the Behavior and Medical sections of this forum and educate yourself on the breed and all of it's challenges. Sheepdogs are the cutest puppies on the planet (in my completely unbiased opinion) , but they can easily turn into 100 lb wrecking machines if not exercised, trained and mentally challenged properly. One of the reasons sheepies end up in rescue is because the owner liked the cute puppy, and wasn't so prepared for the moose it turned into. You may already know all of this, so I apologize if this is old hat, but because we love the breed, we hate to see them end up in rescue due to an owner who loves the look of a puppy, but doesn't understand the needs of the adult OES. Good luck in your search. You might want to start with a breeder referral from the Old English Sheepdog Club of America. To be a member, a breeder has to sign a code of ethics. There are no guarantees with any puppy, but this is a good way to weed out folks who are not on the up and up. You can check out their website or contact Tarja Koistila at oescrazy2@yahoo.com. Best of luck to you. Laurie and Oscar |

Also, in addition to what Laurie said, our beloved sheepies are high maintenance in the grooming department. I just got back from the feed store after bathing Patch and that was after brushing her for several days. they are gorgeous dogs, but must be kept groomed or will turn into a very painful matted mess. I think I speak for most of us when I say that most of our fosters have been badly matted when turned in - the former owners do not have the patience to care for the most wonderful breed on earth (I'm not biased either). |
Like the previous posters have written, OES are not the breed for just anyone. I'd be happy to help you in your search for an OES and discuss the positive and negative aspects of owning one. I'm located in southeastern Indiana.

its also important to remember; that "black patch" will become grey; and no telling how light or dark it may be. You might want to pick your puppy (your companion for his/her natural life) based on its temperment and personality, more than for its markings. However, that "fluffy" part? I think we can all pretty much assure you thats a guarantee! |
