are there any dog trainers in your area that take puppies? i started matie in school at 4 months old. she is 6 months old now and still very much a puppy!!! jumping, playing, etc. and is over 50 lbs. i do have some control of her though. when she jumps, for example, i tell her off and stand still and she seems to get it now. the bitting has calmed down too and also her big teeth are in now. sounds like your sheepie is being a puppy. i would definitely recommend classes...you will bond more with your dog and it will help you understand these behaviors much better. i would probably be in an institution if i had not taken matie...she's a handful! but i am so glad that she is in my life! we are really starting to understand eachother and school helped a lot. good luck to you both. bridy & matie |
Hi Joyce,
Goodness can I relate to your problems. Bam-Bam was not like any other puppy I had ever had. He is now going on 3 years old and just seems to get better with age. What I have learned is how much his feelings are on the surface. The OES just seem to express themselves in a big way be it happy, sad, or whatever. He actually intimidated me when he got all nippy. I found distracting him and getting him to focus his attention on something else, helped. He eventually ceased some of the more obnoxious behaviors or maybe he just grew out of them. Their were times I was not sure who was training who! Good Luck to You....... |
Hi Joyce - try ths, whenever he nips you, yelp, just like another puppy - a real yipe! He will understand this lanugauge and because he doesn't really want to hurt yu will stop. He's only playing like he would with his litter mates. Good luck
