I asked the vet to give the ole guy another shot in his hips and if possible for any pain meds. Today he was running around the back yard with his brothers. Of course his running is a funny lopsided gait but I saw him smile again. I want his time to be special and finally summer has arrived where I can be home most of the day with him. On the 24 of this month, Ole Blue will be 19 1/2. He's still very alert, still loves his food, but his hind end is failing him more often these days. I wish he could live forever but I have resolved it in my mind that he's led a happy life. Of course saying that and going through the motions of that final choice are too different things. I don't want to be selfish as I love him too much for that. I feel fortunate I've had many years with my old grizzled fellow. Both myself and the vet had to chuckle when she held out a treat..the old guy practically pranced for his cookie. Yup, still loves his food. Marianne |

You must be magic Marianne. That is quite an age for a larger dog. I have only heard of little dogs living so long. He is going to hang on as long as he can for your sake. What a great life with you! |
That is great news, Marianne.
My Macy (chocolate lab) is coming up on 15 later this month. Gotta love our oldies!!! |
such love must be between you two |
I can't imagine how wonderful it must be to have had a sheepie in your life for 19 and a half years. There are tears in my eyes as I type this. You and Blue are so very lucky.
All the best to you guys! How wonderful! (Sending virtual cookies to Blue and family). Tracie, Gordon, Portage (10) and evil puppy (Hudson, 16 weeks) |
Wonderful news about Blue. Give him a big smooch from me. |
