I'm assuming you mean the kitchen sink drains. To clean my drain and make it smell better, I pour about half a small box of baking down, followed by about a cup of apple cider vinegar. Immediately pour about a kettleful of boiling water down the drain. Everything foams up and flushes the drain. It really takes away any odors.
However, the smell could be due to a clog. If the drains aren't draining, then you need a plumber! |
if that doesn't work you might be getting sewer gases up the pipe becasue it is clogged like Paula said or because there is another problem (septic tank back up or sewer line issue). |
No septic, and the drains drain fine fast
I will try the baking soda and vinagar. THANKS |
Re-reading my post, I left out the word "soda" after baking. Half a box of baking soda, followed by cider vinegar. Then the boiling water. |
Boiling water could damage your pipes if they are old... be careful. |
I would be looking to see if there is another drain's vent stack interconnected with the kitchen sink's vent stack. Perhaps the P trap on that drain isn't full and gasses are coming into the stack (interconnected with the kitchen's) that way.
Perhaps there's a sink or tub upstairs or donwstairs or next to the kitchen that doesn't get water into it often? Maybe a wet bar? Another unpleasant thought is a dead critter or another clog of some sort in the vent pipe. |

I'm with Ron, check your vent stacks. I had a dead bird in
mine once. Depending where your vent comes out you may just have a critter in there. Check your trap under the drain as well. Could be something stuck in there that is just too heavy to flush but loose enough to let the water drain. Hope you find it. Nothing like having a smell in the house that you can't find! Shellie |
