Dumb question from a First-Time Owner

Okay; so I had Sheepdogs growing up, but my parents did most of the work. Now that I finally have my own, theres alot I am learning, and I have what is probably a dumb question....

Tonks and Luna are approaching 9 months old. For the last month or so, they've been REALLY calm, in comparison to the crazy young puppy stuff.
Today they are just lying around; in factt hats how they seem to spend thier days lately. At first, I thought the heat was wearing them out. But now that the Air Conditioning is up and working, they are still just lying around.

this is normal, right? Dogs sleep alot, and just lounge, right? Or should I be calling my vet...?

Lucky you, Dutch is just over 1 1/2 years and is still very much an energetic puppy
even with the a/c on mine are more "laid back" when the humidity is high. they have lazy days too.
I've found the adults react to what you are doing. If you are active, in and out, they want to see what Mom is doing. However, if you have a routine and they have learned it, then...........yawn!.......get back to me when something exciting happens.
They're just resting up so they can REALLY be bad.

No, you're right - most dogs sleep a fair amount.

It really depends on the dog when they start to reach a degree of maturity. I've just been noticing the past few weeks how my youngsters are finally starting to settle down and they're two now, but dogs vary a lot. The 10 week old puppy I'm babysitting has already surpassed two year old Sybil in terms of maturity

If they seem happy and content just count your blessings.

Kristine
we need a "poor sybil" emoticon
They are lulling you into letting your guard down. At 9 months they are NOT anywhere near done  They go through phases where you think to yourself "Whew! Finally out of the puppy stage" Then 2 weeks later, more hormones kick in and the craziness starts back up.
(Hush!! You're not supposed to tell her that - let her enjoy some peace and quiet for a change!!!)

Mind you, they don't have horomones   But, yes, you are correct. They go through roughly the same development stages whether they're intact or not, and she's not out of the woods yet. But each regression to the wild child state should be less and less traumatic. Normally.

And I think she has more than a two week reprieve. Are we taking bets?

Kristine
you guys are all enjoying this too much!

But thanks for the re-assurances. I figured the girls were "maturing", but when the lazy days rolled into lazy weeks, and then we were approaching our first "Lazy Month" I thought "should I be calling my vet?".

They still do get "puppy crazy"... and usually at the least opportune times. They'll sleep all day, and then begin to get wired around 5 or 6 pm. So then its off to the dog park, or a nice long walk with training time built in, temperatures permitting. If its too hot for that, I just fill up thier pool and let them behave like spastic morons. Works great!
