I am new to this site, so I hope I get this right. My 3yo girl has a very profuse coat. Here in Australia we used to be able to buy an undercoat rake made by Ruddocks. These are no longer available, and I have had no joy with any of the substitutes I have purchased. The best I have had so far is a 10 blade mars coat king, but although doing a great job it tends to cut the coat short as well as stripping. I am wanting/needing to strip the coat over her neck/shoulder/chest areas while leaving the length intact. Does anyone know of a rake or other "gadget" that will do this job? I have no problem with online ordering as I do this regularly. mollys mum. |

My daughter's dog Clay has a very thick and profuse coat. She used this rake with good success - Master Grooming Tools Ergonomic Undercoat Rake. We have the single one, I see there is also one with a double row of teeth.
I got it locally, but it is available online through Petedge. The website is www.petedge.com I will also try the direct link from the page on the website : http://grooming.petedge.com/Master-Groo ... goryId=480 |
I know a lot of us use the Mars on our pets to purposely remove undercoat but I've seen people use this little number to strip the whites on show dogs before:
http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=8466 Lisa is our resident expert Australian on here so maybe she can recommend a place where you can pick up your old tool from. It's the worst when you can't get something because they've stopped making it-- no matter what it is! |
We use the same one - but it cuts the hair. .
It sounded like Molly's Mum wanted one just to thin out the undercoat, but leave all the length. The rake does that, as it has no blades. It just pulls out the fine, fluffy undercoat and leaves the outer hairs there. |
Can you do that on the whites? I didn't realize that there was really undercoat there. Clyde's pretty fine coated, could that be why I didn't realized it? I'll tell you, that neck stuff grows so fast, it runs away from you (well, me!). From now on, I'm keeping it as short as I can in balance with the body otherwise it's a mat fight![/i] |
I posted a thank you reply but don't know what went wrong so will have another go. Many thanks both got sheep and ButtersStotch for your prompt reply. Yes. I only want to thin her coat out. As we do obedience together I want her to look her best in the ring. At present I struggle to quickly find the ring on her collar at the completion of our runnout as she is always so excited and hyped up we look like a comedy duo. A polar bear on pogo sticks pretty much describes Molly with me getting my face washed while trying to find the ring (needle in a haystack) so we can exit the ring. Will check those sites out now.
Again. Thank you. mollys mum. |
