Originally the Dr. thought it might be Lupus, MS, or fibromialga(sp?), because her joints are so painful. The news came yesterday that it is high liver enzyme's. She is genetically predisposed to high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which can't be completely controlled through diet and exercise. So, she has been on med's for many years. I'm guessing this might be the problem. Has anyone dealt with this issue? She is much like me and wants to handle the problem as naturally as possible. Thoughts, suggestions, direction are all appreciated. |

Oh, I hope it's not too serious. In a quick search I saw something:
Quote: Side effect of medication, such as certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), She been popping NSAIDs for awhile? Quote: Excessive use of certain herbal supplements, such as kava, comfrey, pennyroyal or skullcap
Has she been taking herbal supplements? I'm sure the doc asked her about these and will start investigating other causes. The liver is a wonderful organ, but dang it can do strange things sometimes. |
Cholesterol lowering meds are well-known for altering liver enzymes - in fact, it is recommended that they are tested frequently as they start the meds and annually at least. Once they go off the meds, the enzymes often/usually drop down to normal.
My husband has been on the meds for over half his life. He is weird because his enzymes actually get better on the meds. |
