Canidae changes formula without notice

I just had my two on something Bella wasn't allergic to. So they go and change the formula. I am just putting pumpkin in for now, but they took 4/5ths of the rice out of the lamb and rice formula. They replaced it with peas, pearled barley. rice bran and millet. I swear it smells like peas now. Canidae was working for us, but now Nigel has kind of soft stools. The heat usually sets him off too. I am looking at changing to Natural Balance Lamb and Rice Limited Ingredient Diet. It is just Lamb and Rice and some Vitamins/Minerals.

I am so tired of stressing over dog food. Since losing Winston to the recalled food...I have become obsessed. I know this is due to the cost of rice, but I would rather the price just went up.

Sorry...just needed to vent.

Wendy, we switched to Natural Balance, allergy formula, potatoe and duck in the yellow bag. Has worked great for us - no itching and good stools.

Natural Balance has a new system now with their own testing and you can go to their site, plug in your expiration date of the bag of food you purchased and it will tell you what it was tested for, etc. I was impressed with the extent to which they went after the food recalls. I use the dry formula. It was in the Whole Food Journal as a top food so maybe that will alleviate some of your concerns.

My dog was sick also due to the food recalls and he was only a pup back then. He's fine now so I do understand your concerns. It was quite a confusing, stressful time. My sympathies go out to you over your loss.
I am going to try the lamb and rice because Bella seems to do well on it and Nigel's issue is only the soft stools. He seems to have a nervous tummy...and excitement or the hot weather and he gets loose. I am glad to hear some positive results on the Natural Balance. I swear I have tried everything on the market since losing my Winston. I don't want to have to worry so much...they sound like a good choice. Thanks.

Morgan was much like Nigel until we put him on a RAW diet - he no longer has that problem and he was on Canidae before Iswitched him as well.
I don't blame you for stressing over food after loosing Winston to the recall.... I didn't have that to deal with but I worried like crazy over the "what-if's". I hope you find something that works well for you. Right now Baloo seems to have a tummy of steel and eats anything with no issues. He is on the Nutro-Max Lamb and Rice and he seems to like it well.

I appreciate everyone's sharing of food issues. I am learning a lot from it.
