Here's what we already do: 1. "Find the Kong" - I fill his kong with peanut butter and put him in a sit/stay. Then I go to another room and hide it. I return to him and release him with "Ok! Where's your kong? Find it!" and he sniffs all around until he finds it and then spends the next 20 or so minutes gorging on the peanut butter. I've heard that dogs just love to use their noses so it is great for that, plus he must work on his sit/stay which could always use some polishing. 2. "Hide and Seek" - We tried this for the first time the other day. Brad held Tucker's collar and entertained him while I went and hid somewhere in the house. Then Brad released Tucker with "Ok! Where's Mom? Find her!" and Tucker searched until he found me. Then while I was praising him and throwing a big deal, Brad would go hide. It was great! If Tucker started getting stumped, the person hiding would make a little noise to give him a clue. Tucker seemed to really love this game (ok, and we did, too!). 3. Fetch 4. Tug of war 5. Lots of clicker training of various things 6. Agility...sort of...we have the tunnel down pat but for the life of me I can't get him to jump over his jump! He kind of looks at me like, "why would I jump over that if I could just walk around it?" 7. "Hide the Bone" - I hide a bone or treat until a plastic bowl and he has to find a way to get it out. Any other ideas???????? Thanks!!! |

LOL - about the jumping. Chewie was the same way.
He still would rather go under or around if it is his choice, but he does know his jump command ("over" in a super happy voice) and does it 99% of the time. He got really good this past winter - about a week or 2 before Christmas. That put him at 20 months old. It doesn't matter so much the height, just the fact he would prefer to not jump - unless he has really good incentive. If we are getting really wild and crazy, he bounds over like a wild bunny! We are currently working on a trick to do at therapy dog visits - jumping through the hula hoop. It still needs work....... |
OOOOO FUN GAMES, Tucker.
