A few times a night, he'll come lay his head on my shoulder and lick my face and try to lay on my pillow. I am allergic to dogs but who cares? So where does your dog sleep? Lally |
|
Don't tell any "obedience people" , but Abi sleeps as comfortably as she can make herself, to the discomfort of others, between my husband and myself. No other dog (3 to date) nor child (we have 4) has ever been allowed to do so. I guess we're getting old. |
Baloo will get on the bed to snuggle for abit when hubby & I first get in bed and get settled. But he usually only stays for a few minutes getting some lovin' and pettin' before he hops down and sleeps on the floor in the bathroom... or as I mentioned before IN the bathtub.
In the early mornings when Scott leaves for work Baloo will jump up and lay in his spot on the bed. We snuggle each morning before I have to get everyone up to get the day going. (Scott leaves a lot earlier than the kids and I do.....) Snuggling a sheepie in the A.M. is just THE BEST!!!! |

Yes it is. When my alarm goes off, he always comes and lays ON me and we snuggle as I hit the snooze about 3 times! Lally |
That's how it started-- with Simone, between us. Then Harry joined us. MO started growling at Harry, Harry would lick my face, "Make her stop growling." Then my husband started snoring. I grabbed my pillow one night and left...and haven't been back. MO now has more room....half a king bed. I'm on the queen......with Harry. Jack sleeps on the couch next to my bed. When husband leaves for work, MO comes and joins Harry and me. Too crowded so I head for the king bed, but MO, Harry and Jack climb aboard. Is it any wonder I'd rather sleep in a recliner some nights?
Who's in charge of sleeping arrangements? No me! At least Glacier just sleeps in the hallway so as to block attempts to get to bathroom. |
Violet lays on the floor next to either my side of the bed or hubby's...she changes each night and periodically throughout the night. She also likes to sleep at the door of the bedroom. China likes to sleep next to me and Asia likes to sleep between hubby and myself or at my feet. (I am so loved lol) All the dogs get on and off the bed all night long..lol Pearl will come looking for warmth from my hubby during the winter. |
Allie starts out on my husbands head...Front paws are on one shoulder, back paws on the other shoulder..Then she usually moves to the end of the bed, on one of our legs (If we dont move them). Then at some time during the night she ends up in the doorway of the bathroom, on the cold ceramic tile.....But when the alarm goes off, she is back on Darrins head. This time giving sheepie kisses and cleaning out his ears |
once we got Blue, Sami sleeps on the bed starts at my feet ends up between us. If David goes to the bedroom she takes his spot... but does move back when he comes back. Blue on the floor my side but when they have their morning pee he runs back in and steals Sami's spot and she whines until he gives it back to her. Dakota poodle at davids feet and olie 26lbs cat usually finds a spot. AND i wonder when out bed is goes to fall to the basement And sometimes I wake and have no one

Winston always starts out sleeping between us - if he gets too hot, he sleeps on the floor right in front of the fan - then in the morning he gets back in bed and wakes me up with the sweetest soft sheepie kisses .... Unfortunately in order for him to get to me in bed , he generally has stepped on my husband in a "sensitive area" and woken him up. |
All three dogs start off in bed with us. As soon as the news is over, the sheepies leave. I think they get too hot. Keira (Border Collie) stays in bed all night (along with the siamese cat). Bingo Bango...the alarm sounds in the morning, and the sheepies jump back in bed. |
How do they know the news is over? Maybe they don't like the Tonight Show theme music? |
Silly Ron! Cuz they see the credits!!! Cuz we turn the TV off!!! (Geez! ) |

Lally Haha. Anywhere they darn well please! Dee - what obedience people? We're not the ones you need to worry about. Those are the dominance theorists who theorize that if your dog sleeps on the bed she will develop delusions of grandeur and start plotting ways to end your alphaness. Actually, some dogs should not sleep on beds. Not many. But they do exist. The rest manage to enjoy this without staging a coup, unless you count the time Liz braced her legs against the wall and shoved me onto the floor. A bigger bed and not putting it up against a wall solved that. Well, that and the fact that after Mad had her FCE I got rid of the frame and boxspring and dropped the mattress straight on the floor so she could safely get on and off. Last night Sybil and Che claimed the bed first. I let the visiting puppy wander the bedroom as I got ready for bed (she sleeps in a crate) and in no seconds flat she had figured out how to get on the bed (nothing like sending her home with as many bad manners as possible ) However both Sybil and Che threw her back off the bed. They still let me get in it though, so I guess I still rank higher than an 8 week old puppy at least Kristine |
if I am in the guest room (like now cause hubby is still coughing allllll night long) and morgan gets on the bed first he sleeps there all night - usually half on top of me. If marley gets there first she thinks its play time until I turn off the light - then she will snuggle for a while and then get off and find a good (cool) spot. the funny thing is Morgan doesn't take her place
when, as usual, I sleep in the master, the irish setter sleeps on the bed until I come up, when I get in bed they all find a spot of floor until morning when my husband gets up at 5 ( ) and then Marley jumps up for the rest of the night. right now puppy sleeps in a crate but he seems to want to be on the bed. this is why we have a king sized bed. it may get a little crowded. Except for Marley's morning nap - they all wait to be told they can get up before they do - don't know why they always have though. I hope Lizzie doesn't ever explain the physics behind getting us off the bed though |
All my dogs, except Mariah, have preferred to sleep downstairs in their kennels. We have tried them upstairs in the bedroom. Melody would start out there, 1/2 hour later she was in the hall, another 1/2 hour & she was in the kitchen, the next 30 minutes saw her in the lower level hall & then finally into the kennel!
Isaac won't sleep at all in the bedroom. He sits up all night long with his back against my side of the bed, panting (aka bed shaking), scanning the bedroom & you can read his thoughts! "WHY am I up here? WHAT am I supposed to be doing?" So down to the kennel for him too. José knows no different & prefers his kennel even when he's not required to be in it! At dog shows, you don't even have to make him get into his kennel. He walks right over to it & stares at the door & then a me as if to say "what's taking you so long?" Now Mariah, she's different. First off, let me tell you she's a singleton. Any of you breeders know what I'm talking about there. They are just plain different than other dogs! They can't decide whether they are human or canine so they try to be both! ANY chance Mariah has to get to our bedroom, she is on the bed. I don't care if it is 10PM or 11 AM! She LOVES the bed. And what is really funny is she "sinks" her body down on the bed sorta like she's hoping you can't see her (right.....all 84# of her!) & may forget about it & she'll get to sleep there all night! NOT! At least not at home. One thing I do for her is whenever we are out of town in a motel, I let her sleep on the bed with me. The other 3 prefer to sleep in their crates in a motel. Last time we shared a motel room, Beth couldn't believe how José sent straight for his crate as soon as he entered the room! All I can figure out is he must feel safer there. Now Mariah, she's not afraid of anything so why would she opt for a kennel or a crate when she can sink into that nice soft mattress!?! |
Hattie & Maizie sleep downstairs in the kitchen and utility.. they are happy down there... My other two sheepie slept on the bed with us Well they slept we didn't ha ha...
|
Sunny jumps up to get her head on the pillows when she see's we're getting ready for bed. Then as we get in bed she gets her sheepie loves then is moved to the foot of the bed with some grumbles. She stay's there until we kick her off (usually just a strong "Go to Bed!" works, sometimes she has to be jump started). She usually goes to her bed, then sometime in the night bounces around to two different favorite spots on the floor next to the bed. When I get up for work, my spot is immediately filled again by Sunny until one or more of the kids wake up to come jump on the bed and force everybody out. |
Apparently I am the Meanest.Mom.Ever. Bailey was never allowed on the furniture, so now it doesn't even occur to him. When it's hot he sleeps on the tile floor in the bathroom or right at the foot of the stairs. He likes the bottom of the stairs because he can supervise the comings and goings of the family plus keep an eye on the front door. When it's cold, he sleeps on his bed in our room. Afternoon naps usually take place in his crate. |
Oh Marilyn, TOO true and funny re: singletons! Carmella would just WALLOW in the bed!
Duncan would come up but it is too high and i worry about torsion with them jumping off..... that is how it happened with Rosie. but he sleeps RIGHT next to MY side of the bed....... DEE sleeps whereever her 'babies' are........ and they have been in crates for the past year. I just decided they could sleep out of them since their 1st birthday. They do wonderfully when we travel to shows.......... so last night we got home and i said "okay it's figgy newton (everyone gets one at bedtime) night night time" and everyone ran upstairs.......... where did they go? to their crates! wooo hoo Norm has his messenger up! SEE YA GUYS! |
Mine have the run of downstairs, upstairs is for us 2 legged critters.
They have there doggie doonas on the tiles for snoozing on and half the time especially in summer they just flop on the tiles to sleep. The pups are contained to a puppy pen to sleep as they are teething, tearing up things and still are pee machines. When we go up to the farm, they all sleep in our room and there is a bung fight for who is on the bed first, me, hubby or them. Thinking now when the pups start going up as well where is hubby going to sleep with 4 sheepies trying to all fit on the bed. Have mats down for them in the room but they end up jumping up in the middle of the night and laying flat across us on the bed. Lovely being pinned down by a big hairy lug spread across you and breathing doggie breath in your face, delightfull wake up call NOT. Me thinks the puppy pen might need a trip to the farm as well for awhile. |
when i do have them up here, the room is undoggly hot as they are each one on all 4 of the air conditioning registers.......... they dont share with momma......... so i really don't mind if they are in their crates! |
Yep, all on AC registers and once in awhile Jack's collar jewelry or toe nail catches on the register and is dragged through the house. Yes, no air comes out of those covered by K9 Quilts......grrrr. |
Nope, no dogs in the beds. Never have and they don't even try. Frankly, I wouldn't mind as I grew up with them in my bed, but my husband would never allow it.
I guess there is one exception: Lacy during thunderstorms. She'll go into my daughter's room and get on her bed, but only then. My daughter would let her stay except she pants and whines during storms so much that she ends up kicking Lacy out. |
Gross.. Nana does not sleep with us! But she wets the bed though, so it would literally be gross if she did. (She has what the vet called "a weak sphinctor," and is now on pills for it) She still sleeps in her crate at night, and I'm wondering when we'll be able to let her roam free at night? She's 10 months now. The vet chart says dogs are puppies until they're 2yrs.
Our cat sleeps with us though. And with my baby taking up my most of my stomach, that makes 4 of us in bed. 4 is enough! lol |
i am just now starting to let my kids out at night. Funny they do GREAT when we travel........ just at home they are double trouble! |
Dutch will get on the bed for about 5 min. then it's off to sleep on the floor right beside me with her head tucked under the bed |

Kristine, if an elderly Abi couldn't get on the bed, well, heck, I'm sure the whole room would be rearranged for her, but...not by me...by my husband. He limits when we give our boys filets (since they are at the age where they just sort of inhale food) but Abi, I discuss food changes and price never enters him mind! Go figure! |
panda has cuddle time with us for about an hour on the bed...then, like deb, once the tv turns off, she hops down and sleeps either on her dog bed at the foot of our bed or the hallway will all four feet up in the air! |
Pepsi is on my bed every night with long hair or short. He is such a snuggle bug. He ususally starts out spooning me with his head on my shoulder and then he ends up at the foot of the bed or off the bed if I am too hot.
Rags only comes up for naps when I nap or if she had recently gotten a haircut. If Daddy is not around she steals his spot. |
Onyx definintely sleeps on the bed - at times she sleeps right between my husband and I in order to ensure that we don't cuddle (because we all know that sheepies are jealous chaperones). Most nights she sleeps at the foot of the bed between us. When my husband is away (he's a pilot) she sleeps in his spot. When one of us gets up, she moves to that person's pillow and comfortably rests her head. If we're lucky, she'll occasionally sleep on her own bed on the floor.
There have been times when I get annoyed with her and don't want her in the room so I kick her out and shut the door. She whines for a minute and then when I open the door I find her sleeping with her body pressed as close to the door as possible - every inch of her body touching the wood trying desperately to be in the same room as us. So funny. Occasionally she growls when we try to make her get off the bed - but most of the time, when we say "off" she gets right off. I find that intersting that she can be so stubborn at times, but then other times she listens without hesitation. |
Oscar has never had so much as a toenail on any furniture. At 105 lbs, it would be like having another human in bed. No thanks. He has a king-sized bed (Orvis XL Nest) on the floor, and he rotates between that and the tile in the master bathroom at night.
And during tick season, I am REALLY glad he's on the floor. Laurie and Oscar, the poor, mistreated sheepie |
George has a cuddle for about 5 mins then he goes on the bathroom floor where it is cool.
Sometimes he sleeps outside but will only stay out for an hour or 2 so he howls to be back inside. It works for him as we jump up to let me in before he wakes the street up |

SamSun does this same routine every night and every morning. We purchased a king size bed about two weeks ago hoping SamSun would have enough room to lay in the middle of us instead of at my husband's head. Well guess what.....he still lays at my husband's head and his rear end is in my face. Oh boy...just gotta love him though! |
I'd love her to, but I don't think it's good for her joints!!! We have stairs which she will use but if something sudden happens (cat races across room or doorbell, she leaps off). Her legs are already clicking and she's always been on missing link. |
For the first while ThePas slept on the floor or in the closet, and Portage slept on the bed. Soon it was both of them on the bed, and myself and my husband too. Theeps moved to my feet, but Portage always slept on the outside of my husband.
Now we're down (sadly) to only one sheepie in the bed. Hudson is still in his crate at night, but I can hardly wait for the day he's okay to join us up there. And, I should point out that we had a super single waterbed for the longest time (they learned to love the free flowing feeling), and then "upgraded" to a queen sized bed. A king wouldn't fit. So, that's a lot of people and a lot of sheepies for one not so big bed. When ThePas' knees were too bad to climb up on the bed, my father built a step for his granddog. It's the entire length of the bed (so it's unavoidable) and half the height. We covered it in matching carpet so it blends with the floor. Now Portage uses it too, and puppy Hudson likes it, but he's not yet responsible enough to be allowed to stand on the bed. (We're only housebroken when it's convenient to run to the door.) For now, he must sit on the bed. Once he stands up, he's off. I'm a teacher, and for the past ten years I've taken a daily (summer) two o'clock pack nap with my boys. It's going to feel very strange when I'm out of school in a week, and I can't do the pack nap thing this summer. |
