The NEOESR picnic has totally inspired me, and refreshed my spirit. I have lots of ideas to share with our planning committee (who is whoever wants to be on it). I think we need to set a date to start the process, so we can time to put ideas into action. Let me know who's in, and when we can meet. SheepieFest! Its all about the Sheepies! |
|
Oh, girl, you have WAY too much energy...
Just as a reminder, the OESCA national specialty is sandwiched in between the weekends of Sept 13/14th and Sept 20/21st, so probably best to avoid those for attendance purposes. Especially since it's in MN this year. Which weekend is it normally held? I seem to recall a couple of times I couldn't attend because it was either at the beginning or the end of a national, but somehow early October comes to mind? Kristine |
Yep...we shoot for October. I'd like to hold it Oct. 11th. We were trying to matchup with the Chicagoland party, but they aren't sure when theirs is. Probably the end of October, and that can be "iffy" outside weather. Kristine, I hope you will attend again! Lizzie would love to see you (me too!). I'm planning on letting Paulette (Lizzie's sister's mother) know when it is, and hoping they will come too. Are you going to Nationals? |
SHEEPIEFEST!!!! I can't wait!! |
Oh Wendy!!!! I'm so glad you'll be coming back!!!!
|
Wild Sheepies couldn't keep me away!!! |
BALOO is in this time.... now that I can plan it out FAR in advance.
I can't WAIT...... YIPPEE |
SheepieFest!--the original and still the best! Our new slogan. This will be our half decade celebration...our 5th year.
Chicagoland will let me know within a week when their event is. It will be either the weekend of Oct. 18/19 or October 25/26. They had theirs on Sunday last year and SheepieFest! was the day before. I'd like to piggyback again so out-of-towners can make a weekend of it. But their event is inside and we are outside, and end of October--we could be wearing our coats and mittens! I'm going to try to get the same picnic grove as last year. It was really nice with the open space for the dogs to run. Do people care if SheepieFest! is the same weekend as Chicagoland's event? Is it too much for one weekend, or do you prefer to get it all over with at the same time??? |
Is there anywhere I can find out more about Sheepiefest? We are new to the forum - but we had a GREAT time at Sheepiepalooza and would love to go to Sheepiefest. |

Are you going to Nationals? Planning on attending both An alternative plan IF the Chicagoland date is too late is to have Sheepiefest earlier in October and see IF we can swing a herding clinic/instinct test the next day. No promises that Sunday would be open, but if there's interest I can find out. The SE WI club has been talking about putting on a clinic. Kristine |
I guess this is the one reason I'd be happy about moving to Illinois. Husband is leaving Friday to check it out. I'm always looking to meet sheepie owners, so I don't feel like it's just my dog who is crazy. |

I was going to say you'd hate the winters, but then I remembered who I was talking to! Hope you end up this way! IL is sort of central to prime OES land Lotsa fun people. Kristine |
Would love to do Sheepiefest! I'll keep watching for the exact dates. October would be better for Phoebe and I. |
Kristine, If you check and see if Oct 12th is available, that would be fabulous! What an incredibly fun weekend that would be!!! And I sure hope Nita brings scotch again |
You can count us in again too. We had so much fun last year. If I can help from afar just let me know.
Just to put a little pressure on...I need to know the date fast in case I have to work that weekend...so I can get off! |
I'm glad you'll be returning!!!! I think we are shooting for October 11th. I'm sure there will be something (s) you can help with. As we start the actual planning, I won't be too shy to let you know |
I still haven't heard from Chicagoland and Kristine is checking on Oct. 12 for a herding event. But it will definitely be in October. |
debcram wrote: And I sure hope Nita brings scotch again
I may leave the Waterford behind but the Scotch is a definite. |
I'M SO SORRY! The date of the Chicagoland Rescue event is Sun, Oct 26.
I truly am so sorry as I thought I posted it in another thread..that Northern IL turned NY one. I've been frantic at work the past 2 months and have been MIA. I promise ot be bette if I can help again this year...please, please what can I help with? |
It looks the like Beardie people have booked a herding clinic on Oct 12.
Do you want me to look at another date in Oct or...? Kristine |
I'm just worried that the October weather towards the end of the month can be very iffy....and we are outside. Do y'all agree? Kristine, wanna see if Oct 5th is available? |
debcram wrote: I'm just worried that the October weather towards the end of the month can be very iffy....and we are outside. Do y'all agree?
Kristine, wanna see if Oct 5th is available? Will do. I was thinking the same thing. KB |
OK - the 5th looks like a possibility if we don't mind starting at 11 am or so (there's another group there earlier)
Shall I proceed? Kristine |
works for me! work has slowed down a bit so i can help |
I want to get this straight. SheepieFest!5 and the herding gig are the same weekend, but separate days......
Oct. 4--SheepieFest!5 in Illinois This is Saturday Oct. 5--herding gig in Wisconsin This is Sunday Yes or no? |
Yes!! That way, anyone who comes from out of town, will have full weekend of sheepie antics, if they choose. How does that sound, Paula? Stacy! I'm so glad we'll have your help again! I wonder where Amanda and Melissa are? |
It's official! I booked the forest preserve for October 4. Sheepiefest!5 is ready for take-off!!!!!!!
I believe there are pet-friendly motels not far from the forest preserve. I don't know the distance from the picnic to the herding gig though. Stacy, I hope you still have all the plates, etc. that Steve bought last year. Didn't he buy, like 500???? I haven't seen a post from Amanda P. in many weeks. I hope she and Melissa and Izzy are o.k. |
Now I'm worried about the twins. I think I'll send them an email. Thanks for handling that, Paula. OH! I'M SO EXCITED! |
Debcram, did you see my edit? We're a go for October 4. Let me know if you hear from Amanda. |

Someone is going to have to get that Paula woman a sheepdog... |
Ron wrote: Someone is going to have to get that Paula woman a sheepdog...
She doesn't have one???????????? Honey....have I got a deal for you.... Indiana would be delighted if you'd consider Ms Daisy, almost seven, but fit and fun enough to pound youngsters into the ground. Wisconsin would be honored if you contemplate a sweet, but rather shy 18 mos old girl. Others will try to tempt you as well, I'm sure. Failing that, let me know if you want a sheepdog just for sheepiefest and I'd be happy to lend you one of mine. Would you like to borrow a well-behaved one, or one you have to run around apologizing to everyone about? The former makes you look good, the latter makes for a more active social life. Your choice. I only have well-behaved in the female version. If you want a male to hang out with, you'll have to settle for naughty or see if someone else has has a well-behaved male they'd be willing to share. Kristine |

I haven't heard from them either in a while. I hope they're okay too. Yoohoo! Amanda and Melissa........ |

And she doesn't seem to freak out when she learns that a dog you were watching ends up in the lake, she even lends you her show dog in full show coat.... what was she thinking??? |
Hey! I've got a few dogs to loan this year!!! |
You all know I would LOVE to have a sheepie but I'm never home. Yesterday I left the house at 7am and didn't get home until almost 8pm. I can't leave a dog alone that long. Plus I have Bob the Wonder Pony to lavish my affection, time and money on.
This is why I have you people in my life. To live vicariously! |
Perhaps BTWP needs a sheepdog to keep him company in his stable! |
So is this do-able? We can we be in Chicago Saturday and then make it by 11:00 am sunday to WI? How far of a drive are we talking? No matter ... I'm in!!! |
I can't wait! Basil had so much fun in St. Louis-- excited for something closer to home.
...and WCLARKE... Chicago to Wisconsin is a very easy drive. |
From where the picnic will be to the Wisc is about 1 hour (construction and all). We should start researching dog friendly motels/hotels. Maybe 1/2 between our 2 locations. Is anyone up for a group dinner Saturday night...or do you think we will be exhausted? Kristine, is there a fee for the herding area? Can Keira attend? |
I propose we start a separate "Official SheepieFest!5 and herding gig thread" for the specifics. Kristine, can you let me know where in Wisconsin we will be Sunday and I will research pet-friendly motels. It's a good thing it doesn't start til 11 cuz I think a lot of people and pups will want to sleep in Sunday morning!
Ron, dogs are not allowed at Bob the Wonder Pony's stable. He will be an only child until...... |

Kristine, is there a fee for the herding area? Can Keira attend? You can show up at the herding clinic and watch/listen no charge, If you want your dog herding instinct tested, then, yes there is a fee. And, yes, Keira can participate. I have to talk to Shannon today to solidify things, but I already talked to the prez of the WI OES club and, yes, we will open it up to other herding breeds, and that would definitely include Ms Keira. I have to tell you that instinct testing is not inexpensive. Especially if you're doing multiple dogs. I'll get the price etc as soon as I can. If you have some experience, you can test your own dog. I've done so several times at it's fun. If you don't, then Shannon tests the dog for you. If the dog takes a long time turning on to sheep, Shannon will invite you in to the arena where you get to have a "sheepie" party (and, no, that has nothing to do with OES, but refers instead to the actual sheep...) I don't know if sheepie parties are designed to work so much as they are to make the handler feel foolish There you are, moving the sheep yourself, hoping that your dog will get the picture. I've only had to do this once. Liz was all for sheep and watching me herd sheep as she nicely herded ME. I'm sure I have pictures somewhere Maybe I'll try testing her again now that she's had some time to consider the equation, including her heritage and how the sheep fit into that. KB |

Ron, dogs are not allowed at Bob the Wonder Pony's stable. He will be an only child until...... Paula, Magic's Legacy is just outside of Genoa City, WI, right on the IL border. Let me make sure we have that date before we make too many additional plans though. I'll try to get it settled today if I can. Kristine |
Please starting pounding the pavement for auction items. Anyone can participate in the giving and the getting. |
Thanks Stacy...good point. I think we also have raffles this year in addition to silent auction. So, PLEASE LETS GET OUTSIDERS INVOLVED in the donation process! We have handled all these auctions within our own little group. Let's see if we can get some business to donate stuff. If I get info from dog food companies, does anyone have time to write "schnooring" (Paula, that's yiddish for begging/mooching) letters? Let shoot to raise $1000+ this year!!!! GO SHEEPIEFEST! 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
OH NO.... Baloo and I can't come. AAGHHH..... I have to be in D.C. from October 3rd to the morning of the 6th.
I can't tell u how much I'd rather be at SheepieFest than in D.C. |
I'd rather be at SheepieFest! than anywhere else on earth!!! |
We are in for SheepieFest! 5
Let me know what we can do. We are all fine, just not online as much right now....sorry to have caused anyone to worry |
OK, include a herding clinic with instinct testing on the 5th. More details as they become available
Kristine |
WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Sounds like fun and we'd love to go back to Chicago. But....I teach and getting away during the school year is hard. Also (sorry I didn't read all the posts) Oct. 11 weekend is already booked for me.
Ann |
Aww, I wish I still lived in IL ... Anchorage is so far away from all the going-ons.
And it doesn't seem that there are very many OES's here |
The date is actually Oct 4th. Any chance you can make it? |
I can hardly wait! SheepieFest was the highlight of my life last year. I can't recall having more fun! |
Stacy wrote: I can hardly wait! SheepieFest was the highlight of my life last year. I can't recall having more fun!
Stacy sweetie. SheepieFest! is a blast...but it sounds like we need to get you out more often!!! I, too am very excited! I think Paula and I have to get our tushies in gear and get some finalized news together to post. |
This one is going to be difficult, I've manage to talk Bob into 2 weeks on the Outer Banks ( one house hunting ??? ) and a trip to Mexico this winter. It might make it easier since my BD is the 11th, maybe I can get an early present. |
I WANT TO COME TOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I went to Mass for the NEOESR picnic...you come here!!!!! We love you in Chicago! |
WAIT A MINUTE. I thought SheepieFest!5 is October 11. When did it get changed to October 4th????? |
Ignore my last post. It seems I changed the date a few pages ago....... |
Paula O. wrote: Ignore my last post. It seems I changed the date a few pages ago.......
