Carpet cleaning

I am wondering how often some of you steam clean your carpets? I am not a clean freak, but I had no idea how messy an OES could be! She traks in dirt and leaves and I have to mop a lot. I practically never steam cleaned before I got my puppy and I have had her 4 months and now my carpet is a mess! I have beige color carpet, so it shows everything. Is steam cleaning once a month enough?

Thank you!

Ella

I think most of us just pulled our carpet out! When I did have carpet, let's put it this way: I never put the steam cleaner away. I just left in the living room because I knew I'd need to use it daily.
I just shampood mine. I have 5 dogs coming in and out, plus hubby and myself. Living on a farm with a gravel driveway doesn't help - and all this rain....

I would think once a month would be OK. Mine I do when I need to, and I know it is less than monthly.

I have 2 mats that they need to walk across before they come in from the dog yard. I also have mulch down to limit the amt of mud. I keep one of my old pin brushes out on the porch to brush the bigger pieces of mulch off. (Chewie is the only hairy one). It also helps a lot to keep the foot hair trimmed. Trim the excess that grows out between the pads and around the edge of the foot.

Noooooooooo! Don't tell me that! I live in Georgia so instead of dirt I should have said red clay! I have huge red clay stains on my carpet. Man, I will be busy with that steam cleaner.
I just pulled mine out this Monday and replaced it with wood laminate. I also had beige-colored carpet . . . ewww. The laminate is going to be awesome.
I have LLbean waterhog mats in the entry and the hall (a long 9' one) and if the dogs are wet - I keep them confined to the tiled or laminated areas until they dry. I don't want people walking on the carpet with wet shoes why would I let the dogs?

when we come in from the garage if they need to dry off I tell them kitchen and they turn right for it (okay Morgan always does - Marley sometimes thinks she knows better  )

I steam clean the carpet depending on need and usually less than monthly. and to be honest mostly I end up doing it because hubby has left a dark trail from the door to his favorite spot - he thinks I won't know he walked with his shoes on when I wasn't there :)

yep. that happens here too.
wood floors with patterned area rugs....3 x's a week vacuum and 1 x's a week floor wash....floor cleaning and dog ownership go hand in hand
We too pulled up our carpet. We were cleaning it weekly, sometimes daily if the girls really made a mess.
I took out the carpet.
Hi,

I had rose colored carpet for years and finally yanked it out. With three wet muddy dogs it was an never ending battle to keep the carpet clean.

Love my laminate and not one room is left with carpet.

Back to your question: I quess it would depend on what quality your carpet is and whether it can withstand the monthly cleaning without looking threadbare or losing it's color. I hadn't noticed the color difference on mine (always had mine professionally done) until I moved the piano one day.

The day the carpet came out I was amazed at the dust that had worked it's way down to the underlay. OMG! I was breathing that dust in?
