I don't know if I am weird but from all of mine if it happens to be a baby tooth that I find I have over the years kept it. One of the babes lost a tooth today, don't know which one but finally found one of the floor so that is going into the Album. Over the years I have kept tufts of hair too from the sheepies as a keepsake. From Baby puppy onwards. Is that weird or what? Has anyone else kept something unusual from their sheepies? Or am I the only odd freaky one, I was so glad to get this baby tooth today. |

The tufts of hair seem weird to me ...but I save almost all the baby teeth which I catch for all my animals and that's plenty weird to my friends.
Hopefully no one collects fingernail clippings. |
Tylers leather coller is a brown rolled leather coller that I put on him shortly after he came to share out life. After I helped him over the bridge, I remember they gave me his collar. I sobbed and sobbed and couldn't bear to look at it. When Taggart came to live with us, I looked and looked for Tylers collar and when I found it, I knew that it was perfect for my new boy. I cleaned it up and polished it and it's been on him ever since, it doesn't make me cry anymore. So the thing I kept was his collar.

Up until a year ago I still had hair from my first OES....who died in 1977. I was finally able to give it up. Hmm, 30 years........then that means the 55 gal. drum of dog hair from all the others will be with me a few more decades?? I keep thinking I'll send it off for spinning. That's not happening......... |

Oh I am jealous! I am saving hair and I am afraid I never will get enough! |
I don't think it's weird to keep the occasional tuft of hair or baby tooth...
I totally don't get spinning it to wear it though.... that grosses me out. Creepy. |
You can actually use dog hair and send it to someone who does needle felting (do a search for needle felting dogs to see examples). They can incorporate the hair with the wool and make you a mini sheepie.

Oh I am jealous! I am saving hair and I am afraid I never will get enough! how do you save it? I always just toss it but would love to knwo how it should be stored so I can maybe get some spun someday. I really wished I had done this with my first guy after I lost him. |

I really wished I had done this with my first guy after I lost him. I make sure it is dry, then store it in a paper bag or cardboard box. Something that breathes (not plastic) is best. My Samoyed friend has saved theirs for years that way - mostly in boxes. She has the nicest mittens, neck warmer, headband and hat! |
I don't have anything saved from Murphy yet, he was 13 months old when I rescued him and had no teeth.
Dudley, my Berner, I have everything that has ever been surgically removed from his stomach/intestines.....all 15,500.00 worth.. oh and a few baby teeth.... |
We have saved all of Ru's hair (ok not the smelly bits) we have bags of it- I am planning a nice pair of slippers someone posted on here once. Greg thinks cushion filler
My friend sleeps with her dog's ashes. I can't understand that at all but it takes all sorts I suppose |
we have only kept her first collar....its hard to believe that she used to fit into it, actually, i remember how big it was on her at first! |
I have the alfalfa sprout (the piece of hair that always seemed to stick up fromm the top of her head) from Mopsy's hair in a little silver box with her dog tag. Her picture is on the front of the box and I keep it with all of my other family photos on the window sill above my bed.
Here is a picture of Mopsy with Tim about a year before we lost her. You can see the alfalfa sprout I am refering to: |

OMG I completly forgot about what I still have of Tylers...
When he was about 9 years old, we noticed that he had some problems with peeing. We took him to an emergency vet who charged us a whole lot of money to tell us that there was nothing wrong unless we wanted to spend a whole lot more to do more tests. We decided not to. A few weeks later I discovered that he had an ear infection and called a new to me vet for an appointment. In we went and he just fell for Tyler, as we were talking, I mentioned the issues with the peeing and he said, Oh, he has bladder stones and we should schedule surgery sooner than later. We did and in he went to have the sand granuals that the vet was sure he would find removed. We went to pick him up from the vet after the surgery and he handed us a quart sized bag with some rocks in it. What's that? I asked. Those, he said were the stones we got from Tylers bladder, one is not there because we sent it off to have it checked out at a lab. I still have Tylers Bladder stones. 3 in the bag were the size of Dice, and the 4th is the size of a door nob. Yea, you read it right. I should take a photo so you can see. Tyler recovered well from the surgery, but was always leary of the Vet after that. L |
I want the pictures and the story for the website! |
YIKES!!!! Those are huge bladder stones. Tell me they are huge, that can't be the normal size of them can it? Can it?
That sugar thing is hilarious I could make a whole bunch of those... hmm... |
As for size of Bladder stones, I don't know if they were normal or large. He did show me some as an example of what stones could look like, his were a litte bigger than the small ones that came out of Tyler. These were Struvite stones and were probably created due to a bladder infection to begin with. I imagine they grew over time. When Dr. Hacker suggested he do the surgery to remove them, he was sure that they were granuals, much like sand and the urgency to have them removed is because they can travel down the uretha and then the surgery to remove them is much more expensive and serious.
I will look for them this weekend and take some photos, I have never had them out of the bag that they came in, yuck, but I will to take photos, can you say gloves???? |
gotta say - so far Tyler's mom is winning |
I would rather have the money and time back from that surgery than to win, all told it was close to a thousand bucks, Tyler was nine and didn't exactly bounce back, he didn't eat for a full week and lost between 5 and 10 pounds that he never fully gained back. I was so happy when he would eat a tablespoon of baby food....
Also, he never trusted Dr. Hackler again, however, he fell for his new vet Dr. Lori Debaco and she him. His incision did develop an infection that did slow down his progress too. So it was not something I would ever want to go thru again.... But I did have many more good years with him and he peed alot better after that. L |
Tylers Mom we want photos
Wow and I thought I was weird with sheepie hair and teeth, between you and Dudster and his gourmet appetite and his mom keeping what's been removed from his gut, boy WOW I am not so wierd. Dudster we need photos too of Dudleys keepsakes and collection. Have you insured it for loss after all the expense to have it? |
I have a piece of cartilage from ThePas' knee.
When he was six months old he started limping, and the vet opened up the knee and found a small piece of cartilage floating freely in it. I still remember the clanking sound it made when he dropped it into the metal bowl. He gave it to me in a pill bottle to keep, and I still have it. (He cleaned up the ragged ends, but the cartilage never did grow in properly.) I have a collection of fur, teeth (baby and otherwise) and the more typical things like collars, tags, and favourite toys, but my cartilage chunk from Theeps is definitely my most interesting keepsake.
